Sober with cancer

Continuing the discussion from About the Your Story category:

After 2 years of sobriety, I now am dealing with throat cancer. Had surgery and 30 radiation treatments. Still no alcohol but it’s a challenge.
Hanging in there, and it’s good to check in…

First of all, I’m praying to god and you will better soon. Well done that you are still giving importance to your sobriety when you struggle with your health issue. That is the best thing you can give to yourself.

That’s a lot to deal with Gary, but like Sarath mentioned dealing with it sober is the best thing you can do right now. But I do understand the struggle. Maybe it’s an idea to check in here on this forum every day? You can do so on this thread but we have also a special dialy check in thread here. You can find it here:

You will get a lot of support there and it will help you to stay accountable.
It helps me a lot for sure when I’m in a fulnerable spot :hugs:
Hope you will get the best care and can heal :people_hugging:

Bloody hell. That’s a rough diagnosis and a draining treatment. Wishing you the best results possible.

When things are tough for me I’m reminded of one of the sayings that really resonated with me:
“There is no problem or situation that alcohol can’t make worse”.

Keep doing the next best thing you can. This is all serious shit that would make anyone question almost everything in their life. Priorities shift. What’s important changes.

You’re strong.

All the best!
