Sobriety and starting afresh

Heading into my day 2, still feeling a little ropey from my latest relapse and heart is going like the clappers, one day at a time is all I’m looking at for now.

Congratulations on day two, I am on day 18 and the two acronyms that have really helped me to take care of myself during these tough times are H.A.L.T. (Too hungry, too angry, too lonely, and too Tired) this helps to know what your body needs during this difficult times and if it becomes too difficult that is the best time to reach out to people who support you and go to meetings. The other is K.I.S.S. (Keep it simply simple) here helps with knowing it’s okay to take it easy and take care of yourself during this time by not doing too much that overwhelms you that will cause too much stress and anxiety making everything become more difficult to manage your withdrawals :sad_but_relieved_face:

Thanks for the welcome, yes ive just currently woke from the best nights sleep, no bounding heart rate or anxious thoughts just pure sleep  my focus right now daily is to focus solely on me, my needs. Plenty of water, juices and a decent diet. On my drinking days i would totally neglect myself of these basic needs.

Day 5 here. It’s been at least a dozen attempts for me so far. For me the first 3 days are abysmal mentally and physically, by day 7 I start feeling human again, at 14 days I start feeling like myself more, day 30 the fog starts lifting, day 90 I’m myself again.

It’s still one day at a time though. Hang in there, it gets better.

Thanks all, I’m into my day 4 and on a nightshift tonight so that takes away some of the craving a drink anxiety and also I’m going into the shift not hung over or feeling crappy in mood so that is an extra bonus. Going all good so far and in very positive mood and outlook this time around

Congratulations to taking this huge step in life and welcome to the community :hugs::green_heart:

For all of you in early sobriety please stay vigilant. The Pink Cloud is very deceiving… feeling better eventually is a given when you put the drink or drug down. Many times it has led me to reevaluate whether I was really an alcoholic to begin with….. your disease loves to put you in this position of indecision. The Big Book says if you are truly not sure if you are an alcoholic, then go ahead and try some controlled drinking. This is a wink and nudge statement. For the alcoholic there is no such thing.
Don’t be fooled….. If you need to control your drinking, your drinking is already out of control. Don’t pick up that sucker drink today, you are feeling better, now let the miracle happen :folded_hands:
Good luck to all of us. Today is not the day to go backwards !! :flexed_biceps::+1::tada::winking_face_with_tongue::flexed_biceps:
