Officially Springtime here in the U.S. Although it doesn’t feel like it (still dipping into the 20’s at night and hardly climbing above 60 here). I actually just realized this because it’s so friggin cold I had to look up when the hell it was going to get warm. But thank god it looks like this week will be the last of the long stretches of freezing. I HATE being cold, used to like it when I was a fat kid but idk something changed as I got older. Booze doesn’t permanently thin the blood does it?
Anyway, I’m so looking forward to warm sunny weather. I still have to say Autumn is my favorite season but Spring is definitely 2nd. Anyway my point was, I was wondering how you guys view the changing seasons? Do you pick up any particular hobbies or activities? Look forward to anything in particular? Have any rituals or holiday traditions?
My mood always seems to really improve with the weather. I’m looking forward to being outside more, getting a bit of a tan and putting the top down on the jeep. I wish we had nice places to hike here, but it’s all flat and private property anywhere close to me. No real interesting sights unless you like kudzu, mud and flies but hell I’ll take it.
We have been getting out hiking lately. Went yesterday, but rain storms are moving in this week. Have you tried the all trails app? I’ve found a lot of trails that were worth hiking on there.
We are southeast US (western NC) and hopefully tonight is our last night below freezing (just updated to 30F tonight). 80/60 on Friday. I have all our peonies covered as they popped up after some good rain. Looking forward to real spring.
We have lots of hiking where we are and waterfalls…we enjoy that a lot. Very hilly here. Love the spring flowers…getting late season daffodils, bloodroot and trillium now. Hoping to see some Jack in the Pulpit soon out on one of our favorite waterfall walks. Looking forward to less chilly runs and time on my bicycle. There is a beautiful ‘flowering bridge’ nearby and we like visiting at various times of year to see what is blooming. Mostly we just like walking the trails. This morning we had 4 Tom turkeys out front strutting their stuff all fanned out, trying to impress the 3 hens with them…super fun to see. Enjoy spring!!!
Here in Berlin spring gets people sprung. It’s reasonable, the winters are notoriously dark and cloudy—sometimes going for endless stretches of time without sunlight. In spring you can smell the love in air, eyes start to wander and hands linger for a bit too long. It’s a good time
First day of spring here in southern Ontario, 0 degrees with a cold wind.
Sunshine but still snow in some parts of the ground.
I hate being cold as well ! Who likes the cold , unless they got something in their system to keep em warm and numb to it.
I’m excited for Easter time , and spring revival at my church and just being able to spend more times outdoors. I live down the street from a popular beach with a long board walk & lots of nature so it’s a good spot to be around during spring / summer.
I live in a really dirty built up city, really I’m lucky to live down the street from the beach because the closest forest is quite a train ride / journey away from me & I currently don’t have a car.
It’s intriguing how mood can be affected by weather. Thats one big reason I take in lots of nutrients and vitamins during winter. I live in a basement apartment so it’s hard for me to get lots of light even during the sunny/warmer seasons.
We still have tonssss of snow here on the North Shore of MN! So I’m looking forward to it all melting! It has been nice to be able to stand on my deck and soak up the sun though since it has been a little warm lately. Soon I’ll be talking my dog for walks and visit one of our favorite places, High Falls State Park.
Here in the northeast part of the states it’s finally starting to warm up. Was freezing this morning around 20 degrees but is up around 50 now. I work outside all year long so I’m basically hating the winters at this point. I’m so done with having to layer up everyday. The warm weather just puts you in a better mood I think. I’m so jealous of people who get it all year around. Looking forward to just being able to jump on the motorcycle and just spend time outdoors.
Oh nice, I love that area of east TN/west NC, Used to drive through there a couple times a year when I had family in Raleigh. One thing I’ve always wanted to do and still sometimes entertain the idea is to hike the Appalachian trail, at least some of it (thank Bill Bryson). It’s so beautiful there.
It is a gorgeous area for sure. We have a few friends that have hiked some of the AT. We used to do parts when we lived up north…always the knarliest part of the trail.
Oh that’s nice. See, I had to ask here because most people I know irl here hate spring/summer. I’ll be talking to one of my friends and all I hear about is how they “HATE the spring, hate being hot, hate the sun, wish it would stay freezing etc.” and I just can’t relate.
It’s honestly a miracle. You go from everyone absolutely despising each other to everyone wanting to jump into bed with each other—all at the flip of a switch. Even the plants and animals, it never fails to astound me.
Oh cool, I have spent a few days in the Poconos and used to spend my summers in Maine. I have gone on a couple day hikes there when I was younger so I never really thought of it but I suppose I technically have hiked IN the Appalachians. Still want to do some of the trail though. Those are both beautiful places themselves.
I really liked PA though, around Amish country especially, there is some really gorgeous pastoral scenery and it’s kind of like you can see what it looked like 200 years ago… really really old farms, etc. I love that kind of stuff.
I was born and raised in the great State of ME! We had a few Shaker communities up near us very reminiscent of the Amish communities, but much smaller, as Shakers were celibate communities.
Nice, I’ve always wanted to visit, Berlin looks like such a clean modern city. But I suppose you guys get pretty mild springs/summers, although I wouldn’t know. I can’t really blame people I know here for their dislike of the heat because it does get so incredibly humid here it feels like you can swim through the air sometimes. But I’m just built to better withstand heat than cold I guess.
I wouldn’t say clean or modern but it’s a city. Its magical in the summer. Lots of green space and parks integrated into the city planning. Being raised in Memphis, TN I hated the summer and always preferred the autumn. It’s the opposite here and also it’s a biking city so you don’t get cars clogging up the streets—at least compared to the states.
Honestly I love Memphis. My good friend from high school also lives here in Berlin with me and she’s going back in the summer to start an artist program in her neighborhood. I’m a white station spartan class of 2012. Got my treatment for leukemia right there at St. Jude’s. Love the food, the people, the culture, the MUSIC.
