The alcoholic tornado

The alcoholic is like a tornado roaring his way through the lives of others. Hearts are broken. Sweet relationships are dead. Affections have been uprooted. Selfish and inconsiderate habits have kept the home in turmoil. We feel a man is unthinking when he says sobriety is enough. He is like a farmer who came up out of his cyclone cellar to find his home ruined. To his wife, he remarked, "Don’t see anything the matter here, Ma. Ain’t it grand the wind stopped blowin’?"
Yes, there is a long period of reconstruction ahead. We must take the lead. A remorseful mumbling that we are sorry won’t fill the bill at all.
We ought to sit down with the family and frankly analyze the past as we now see it, being very careful not to criticize them. Their defects may be glaring, but the chances are our own actions are partly responsible. So we clean house with the family, asking each morning in meditation that our Creator show us the way of patience, tolerance, kindliness, and love.
The spiritual life is not a theory. We have to live it.

@Rikk Great words of wisdom, I must say I am not religious but I am spiritual, I have to say though addiction of any kind is the devils work. I used to describe how I felt in therapy when I started that I felt I was in a water vortex trying to swim to stay on top/afloat… So what you posted really resonates with me ! :persevere: you are so right when there is a storm life goes on and we rebuild… really encouraging and thanks for sharing… :grinning:

I’m glad you enjoyed reading that, it’s something pulled from the big book (AA)
I think I’m going to make a thread just for these inspirational reads.
Hope all is well down under :grinning:

@Rikk I need to get myself a copy, have not attended an AA meeting (online a few times though). Sound like it would be a good read with a lot of subjects to get the old mind thinking… Things are pretty good down here, weather is starting to heat up and I am feeling great (thanks for asking)so happy days!!! Please do make a thread as I look forward to reading what you post (as I am sure everyone else will to) hope things are great in your neck of the woods…
