My oldest daughter has always been fascinated by this fontaine! I took her to the crêperie just in front of it so many times.
I also lived 10 years at 100m from there
JEALOUS!!! My favourite city in the world.
Girl in kimono, George Hendrik Breitner, 1894. One of my favourite Dutch painters made a series of 13 paintings of this girl in different kimonos. Rijksmuseum did a special exhibition on them a couple of years ago. Magical.
Some of my favorite art are the snowflake images of Snowflake Bentley. From his photos we learned that no two snowflakes are alike.
" "Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated., When a snowflake melted, that design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone, without leaving any record behind."
Wilson Bentley (1925)
@Pat_m if you are inclined, please look at my earlier submission on this art thread, from fall of 2021 I believe. (Not that many posts to scroll up). Edit: Ooops, it is not this art thread, it must be another one. It is the Tour riding through the Louvre. Second edit: here is a link to the other post and thread (hopefully) Favourite sculpture, painting, photo - #18 by Alisa
I absolutely love the delicate and intricate beauty of snowflakes. Thanks so much for sharing.
Design by Picasso, made by Carl Nesjar in 1965, my birth year. It’s been in Vondelpark ever since. Used to use it as a goal post as a kid.
The Scream, close to where I live in Oosterpark. Also close to the place where Theo van Gogh was murdered in 2004. He was a loudmouth querulous filmmaker and journalist who never kept his mouth shut on no subject whatsoever. And was brutally slain by a total scumbag asshole, who thought killing Theo served his god in some perverse way. Not a good day in Dutch history. I do like this memorial by his friend Jeroen Henneman.
Dick Bruna created Nijntje (Miffy) and was heavily influenced in his use of primary colours and clear lines by Interbellum Dutch art and design movement De Stijl (The Style) of which Piet Mondrian was the best known member. Love this Nijntje drawing.
I was scrolling to find a Pollock. You may like the work of Jiro Tcholakian. A New York artist, very influenced by Pollock, but with a distinct style. His work is still somewhat affordable.
Some of my favorite art that I’ve picked up for my apartment since arriving. Mostly local artists. First one shown I just got today, following my annual review with my boss which went exceedingly well and I got some great news. So “treat yo self” mode was engaged.
Treat yo self! It’s all beautiful but I really specially like the vases. Or what I perceive as three vases but could be anything.
Edit to say, in fact I’m probably showing my complete ignorance here and they ain’t vases at all. And I’m going to second guess and say gourds.
Phew what a rollercoaster of emotion that was.
Thank you!
And, the emotional whiplash: they are vases.
