The Football (soccer) World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada 2026

Will you be watching the tournament?
Are your country taking part? Do you fancy their chances of going far in the tournament?
Who do you think might win?
Have you got a team in the sweepstake at work?

I once saved up a lot of annual leave and booked the entire tournament off work for France 98, a whole 6 weeks, and I watched virtually every match. I’m not as fanatical about football nowadays but I’ll be watching the ones that play in a reasonable time for my time zone.
I’m from England and I think we have a shot at reaching the semi finals. Spain will be the team to beat in my honest opinion.
I don’t have a team in the sweepstake this year but I had Argentina for the last World Cup 4 years ago.

Just 12 days to go. May the best team win.

Fellow Englishman here!

I worry about the strength of our defence and think we will do very well to reach the semis this time. It obviously depends who we face but I can see a quarter-final exit for England.

I think Spain should be tournament favourites but I quite fancy Portugal to win this year. Just a hunch.

Hopefully it will be an entertaining few weeks, and it would be good to see at least one of the three host countries go far into the tournament… providing it’s not at England’s expense!

I worry about the whole Dutch team. But you never know. To be honest, I’ve been falling out of love with football a bit in recent years. But will watch the World Cup of course. Still hoping we can win it one time. Not expecting it to happen this time though.

No idea who will win and won’t mention any favourites because that would be naming the obvious obligatory big footballing nations. My personal favourite is Curacao, tiny remnant of the Dutch colonial past, now a constituent country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Smallest nation to have qualified for the World Cup both in population (156,000) and territory (444km²). First time they qualified. They’ll play Germany in their opener in two weeks time. Go Blue Wave!

Portugal are definitely dark horses. They just had a great Nations League and won it. I think their main problem is C Ronaldo. He’s not the same player anymore and Martinez won’t have the guts to drop him.

I love a good underdog. It would be great if Curaçao could make it through the group stages.

Go, Spain! With us, it could go either way: play really well and easily get into the last rounds, or drop off the table in game 4. We will see.

For me personally, it’s more about getting together with friends to watch Spain play. Soberfootball/soccer for me, of course.

No way. A point would be huge. Now what I would like is an England v Scotland match somewhere along the way. With Scotland winning

This will be my first sober football tournament. New territory for me.

We can not drink together for the whole tournament. Got any pomegranate juice?

I got to watch almost the whole thing from work in a hospital SA in 2010. Alas, right now my energies are for keeping our visitors safe here in Seattle. Amazing athletes, whichever the team.

I’m just hoping to see the US advance to at least the knockout round! It’d be nice to England-Germany though!

Being on the other side of the world, ko times are not kind to us Aussies. Plenty of coffee and bleary eyes at work for the next month.
GO AUSSIES :green_heart::yellow_heart:

Times often aren’t kind to us Europeans either. But I’m not that excited yet. Should Oranje win some matches that will change.

Mexico are playing well and could be 2 or 3 goals ahead. I expect them to score again now that SA have had the commentators nightmare ‘Sithole’ sent off.
