Oddly enough, I never saw it until maybe 7 or 8 years ago - and yet it still brings me back to my childhood because I remember what a big deal it was at the time (I was 8 when it was released). Same story with Titanic, actually.
Just recently it was on TV and I hadn’t seen the beginning of it in a while. They do these wide, sweeping shots flying over the Oklahoma farmlands and it’s just fantastic stuff. Great movie and classic 90s pop culture.
I forgot my own favorite line.
“Hey Meg, where’d you get all this beef?”
“Did you see my cows out front?”
“No…”
It’s been available for relatively inexpensive for a few years, so it was just a matter of time. Watched it 1st time during lockdown/pandemic. It’s great but not perfect, and it goes off the rails a bit towards the end, but its influence is undeniable. There would be no Sopranos, The Wire, etc without Oz.
I had also found this, which wasn’t on my dvd shelf. Hiding on my coffee table under a notebook. Shaped my sense of humor early on and probably for the rest of my life.

This is great! I thought we were the only people who had physical media. Our collection is mostly DVDs. Streaming has its advantages. But I don’t want to spend $5.00 to watch a 15 year old movie.
We get most of ours from the second hand shop at the library or Walmart.

You just bought a new shelf and then you bought more dvds in the weekend and now it full

Nothing new here atm although in the summer, I finish work at 9am local time so I may pop over to one of the thrift stores I haven’t been to in a few months, see what they’ve got for me. Can comment on favorites later because I have plenty to say about your pickups.

Alright. Pair of new pickups today, $3 total.
I may not be the target demographic for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but it’s an amusing and warm movie. A nice, light watch. I grew up around a lot of Greek families, and I had always thought their culture and their pride in being Greek was great. Has become a comfort film over time. I remember it making a big splash when it came out in theaters, don’t hear it talked about much these days.
…and now, my “favorites” per Trav’s ask. Not necessarily my favorite films, although there is certainly some overlap. The line of thinking was more, “I’m really glad I have hard copies of these just in case”. Tried to cap it at 10, but you get bonus Sopranos too. I’ve had the copies of Jaws and T2 for over 20 years, more than half my life. Eventually I will bite the bullet and get better versions of both, probably 4k, but I doubt I’ll ever get rid of the DVDs for sentimental reasons.
One of my all-time favorite lines is in that one.

We have my big fat Greek wedding I am yet to see it. Also lacking my cousin Vinnie.
Oh man thats so cool, we have had some good movies filmed New Zealand. I think the closest sites to me would be few of the lord of the rings ones.
I also havent seen eye wide shut.
