Finally decided enough is enough need to take the steps to seriously putting a stop to my addiction. Official first day will be tomorrow. Would love any kind of good tips or tricks anyone has to offer, and not just the same generic stuff you see everyone saying, (granted any and all tips are welcome) but also different little things you’ve discovered yourself that work great for you and might for other. I know this isn’t going to be easy especially with my adhd but hoping this community combined with a proper tracker and plan, will help me get through this.
Welcome to the community plenty tips here but no tricks.
Hope you find these links useful. ![]()
Quit at night then you have a few hours sober from sleeping! Sleep lots. Make a commitment in the am to not use that day and lay your sober head on the pillow that night. Simple but then when the addictive voice tries to negotiate you can shut it down bc you already made a firm decision not to pick up
Fill your fridge with nice foods and have enough sweets to take. Rest plenty and don’t be harsh for yourself. Distract yourself and keep your mind and body busy.
Walking, working out and eating chocolate where my to go to in the beginning. And being here every day.
Hows it going? @Dman797
Welcome.
I use to start every day right here on the gratitude thread.
C’mon over. Show us what you got.

Welcome and good luck. While everyone is different, you can count on many here who’ve wrestled the same stuff and seemingly minor characteristics of doing it. Still the best thing I carry daily (110 days sober today) is forget about counting or looking ahead - one day at a time - and just focus each day on getting to bed sober. One day. You can’t control anything beyond what’s right in front of you. Get to bed sober, then after awhile you can start stringing them together. But even after almost four months, some days are easier than others; just focus on the day you’re in and manage what you can to keep clear. It won’t take long to see and feel the changes - I drank consistently for a long time (25 years) but the most consistent / heaviest over the last 10. You forget about mental clarity and everyday function until the fog starts to lift but you can do it. One day at a time. Keep going, keep coming back. Good luck - you can do this. ![]()
