Keep digging or starting climbing. Has alcohol dug enough of a hole in your life yet?

It’s very hard in the beginning. If you surround yourself with sobriety related content/ activities it’s much easier. Surround yourself with what you want to become. I recommend this place, sobriety podcasts, sobriety books, meetings…. Whatever resonates with you. You can do this because I did. There’s nothing special about me. We’re here for you, best wishes friend.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. DUIs are harsh, especially in my state. They really don’t make it easy to get through it.

I never got a DUI…..somehow. but my fiancé did. He continued to drink for 7 more years. Didn’t regain his license for 7 years. Still went through probation, the drug tests, all of it. It’s expensive, it’s exhausting. It’s so hard.

The idea is to make it do hard that you never do it again right? But they don’t think about the emotional side of things. They don’t think about how you became an addict in the first place. They don’t take it seriously. They don’t treat you as someone in recovery. They treat you as a criminal.

They’re likely going to make you go to therapies and groups. It’s very important thst somewhere in there you go to your own groups, use communities like this one, and choose a personal therapist to help you work through this.

I know it’s dark now but there’s a light somewhere at the end. It gets better and it’s so worth it. I stopped drinking 9/1/2023. I quit drinking (and several other substances) because my liver started failing. At 25 years old a doctor told me I was dying. I was killing myself. That was my DUI. I had restrictions, less freedom, and I was still suffering.

For most people it takes something severely altering our lives and our path to change. Or to see there’s a problem. This is yours. Take this lesson in. Learn from this. Take this opportunity because the next one may be something you can’t come back from.

I know you don’t know me. But I believe in you! You can do this
