Useful tips and tricks

The title sums up what I’m looking for.

Honestly it would be nice to get some tips or feedback. Any advice at all really. I’m in the beginning stages of alcoholism, and I very much have an addictive personality from both sides of my family. I never wanted to be an alcoholic, but then again nobody does and no one ever plans to be. I’m not to the point of having shakes when I wake up, and I don’t drink near as much as I started drinking at the beginning of this year. With that being said, I know that if I don’t get this in check it can certainly become an even bigger issue. I’d like to go without a drink for even three weeks, that would seriously feel like an accomplishment. It’s so hard though because I do chase the feeling that it gives me.

Good for you for realizing it’s becoming an issue and making an effort to kick the habit before it gets out of control. From personal experience, I wish so so badly I would have went to an inpatient rehab the second I was drinking 3/4 days a week. (When I say drinking, I don’t mean wine nights, I mean shots out of a vodka bottle). I didn’t want to admit I had a problem then.. and eventually at 30 years old, I found myself needing to drink in the mornings to stop the shakes. I ended up having a seizure from withdrawals. I finally admitted to myself that I had a severe alcohol problem and needed a place where I could focus purely on sobriety. IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE. I didn’t want to leave.

There were a lot of people at my rehab that were not as severe as I was. Many of them just wanted to stop drinking before it caused bigger life altering problems. So don’t think that inpatient rehab is only for people who get wasted every single day.

It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. So many people struggle with alcohol. There were lawyers, teachers, grandparents, nurses, and doctors all struggling with alcohol. I met the kindest people and still keep in touch with them to this day.

So.. if you take anything away from my long rant.. REHAB SOONER THAN LATER!!! I will preach that until my grave.

Good luck! You got this
