What happened historically on your sobriety date?

I like to go check on the internet what happened in the past on certain dates, like on birthdays of my friend I will tell them how funny it is that exactly 100 years ago at that date some great thinker was born too or something.

What about your sobriety date??

Today I restarted my counter on my app and I thought that 7th July was a boring date so I went to check. I picked four events for my date:

  • 7th July 1928: Sliced bread is sold for the first time by the Chillicothe Baking Compagny of Chillicothe Missouri.

  • 7th July 1954: Elvis Presley makes his radio debut with his first recording “That’s All Right”.

  • 7th July 2005: London’s attenta, four suicide bombers killed 56 people and injuring over 700 others in the transport system.

  • 7th July 2017: adoption of the international Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, with the goal of leading towards their total elimination.

I picked those because it remembers me that everything starts somewhere, from a first try (from sliced bread to Elvis, the first step is always necessary), and also it remembers me that humans have to potential of doing huge things, sometimes for the worst (suicide bombers, RIP Londoniens) and sometime for the Greater Good (the treaty).

All those can be linked to my today’s decision of sobriety. I can choose to see the fun in it, one slice at a time, lol, I can see the dreams I have and could be able to attain if I stick to it like Elvis, I can see how destroying the other side of the story can be, and I can see how we can together do great things for humanity - and for me it can’t be while drinking because I’d be a complete waste of potential.

I found this exercice interesting! Hope you enjoy the idea
Have good day guys.

This does look like a lot of fun. Thank you.
I’m going to go with my sober date and this year. January 2 2020. Except for my sobriety, 2020 has been a disaster.

Server receives $2,020 tip from Donnie Wahlberg at St. Charles IHOP

Bobbi Kristina Brown’s Ex-Boyfriend Nick Gordon Dies at 30 from Drug Overdose

Being 2020 I’m sure a buttload of other things happened that day. I like the first one since I’ve worked in the restaurant business all my life. And I guess Nick Gordon :pray:t2: who I do not know, dying of an overdose on my sober date could mean something mystically relevant.

:pray:t2::heart:

I also like to think of mystical stuff like “synchronicity” of things happening. Maybe it’s BS, but if honouring someone’s death or a special event can make you stay sober more , why not ?
Thanks for playing the game

Was re-reading my post today and found this one.
@Ray_M_C_Laren I couldn’t find anything special on wikipedia about my new date, which is now the same as yours and your sons birthday, September 15th. On wikipedia I only found interesting that it in World War I, September 15th was the date when they used tank for the first time in battle. Not very happy news, for me it’s like taking the big guns this time, lol.
And the 15th is the date me and my partner started to be in a relationship a year and a half ago. So every month will not only be our anniversary but my sober date too.
I’m good with this.

Not historical. But unintentionally, my first year birthday landed on the day we were going to see Hamilton for the first time.

Nice way to celebrate a year of freedom. :eagle: :+1:
