Yoga for October! Yoctober anyone?

Good stuff :+1:

I tried my hand at an intermediary class yesterday, a channel called Breathe and Flow. I had correctly anticipated that it would be difficult and I was able to do maybe 70% or it. It was a good place marker, but past my level currently. And something definitely got my glutes going, am really feeling that this morning.

I plan to do day 25 and 26 of the ywa videos later.

Good for you for giving it a go!

I must say now I’m more comfortable with yoga practice I appreciate the more beginners focused stuff more. Really working on my alignment and connecting in with my body and breath. It’s amazing to me how much strength and stamina you can build even through relatively gentle practice - especially if it’s a daily thing. I definitely pushed myself more when I was starting out though, but over time the desire to ‘improve’ has slipped away and I have found a real appreciation for enjoying the practice within my own limits.

Not meant as a comment or critique of anyone doing it differently, just an observation about my own yoga journey

Absolutely. I’m amazed at how quickly I toned up from doing the beginner videos regularly. And I’m still very much in that category. I do what ever I feel like on any particular day and that works for me atm. And a couple of early injuries taught me quickly that you have to be careful. But it is still fun to test myself occasional.

And with the breathing, it can be so powerful. I find myself doing it off the mat now, generally breathing in a more deliberate way.

It is incredible how much difference small but deliberate action can have! I also find so many wonderful metaphors between yoga and recovery/ life.

Did the other movement medicine video today - Calm. A mainly chilled practice with a few challenging bits in there. Short and sweet! :fire: :sparkling_heart:

Yes, I agree, so many echoes between the two. It’s a process of discovery much like sobriety, and finding mind/body connection. Strength and peace. I love it.

Did the ‘dead inside’ video yesterday, it’s was a good one. Still feeling that pain in the butt from Mondays session tho, I really found some new parts of my body that day :upside_down_face:

Didn’t yoga yesterday, overslept! But I did go and see my old yoga teacher for a massage and he’s given me a stretch to practice to help my leg (and hopefully correct a posture issue that could be something to do with why my quads struggle so much).

Did the yoga for inner space travel this morning, liked the effects on it :woman_astronaut: and followed it with my posture stretch and some bridge pose for hamstring strengthening.

Keep meaning to post that I went to my friend’s yoga class at the weekend, it was on Sunday instead of Saturday and it was Halloween themed! She renamed some of the poses it was fun.

Not done any yoga this week as I’ve been tiiired and oversleeping. But going to try and get into balance today and maybe start a Yovember post up tomorrow. I’m going to keep the idea of daily yoga in my mind but if I manage a few a week on average, I’m happy with that at the moment.

That sounds like fun. I did enjoy the YWA videos at the end that were all Halloweeny. It made a nice change.

Thanks for setting the thread up, I had a really good time being part of it and chatting with everyone. I learnt a lot and although I didn’t manage everyday, I’m pretty pleased with how I did. As you should be mate, it can be difficult to restart something and maintain it. I will absolutely get involved in Yovember👍

I have just started another 30 day plan and am loving it. One of my favourite musicians/people is also a yoga teacher so I had a look to see if he had anything online, and BINGO!!! He had a whole course for free on an app called DoYou. It’s male orientated, but obvs anyone can do it. It’s shorter sessions but so far they have been pretty intense but fun.

I’ll mix other things in as the classes are only 10-15 mins and I’d like to be doing more than that.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone elses practices evolve :+1:

Nice! I think having a short daily practice is the best way to make it sustainable tbh. And then like you say you can always do more when you feel like it!

Glad you’ve enjoyed the thread, me too :hugs:
