She is awesome! So great to have so many videos to choose from. And you gotta love Benji
After 3 days of really light stretching my back felt okay so I jumped back in. I managed to get through this full class without much discomfort. I especially like the gecko to pigeon towards the end.
Took another day off as my leg isn’t better. Maybe a bit worse. Might look for some chair yoga to do for a few days to try and keep some routine to it. But for today, an early night in the hope of a nice long healing sleep
Chair yoga can be a great option! Just taking the time to breathe and move a little is awesome. Let me know if you find any good videos or sequences you like.
Day 17: Tried a 20 minute body scan this morning. My mind was a little all over the place, but it was still a good way to start the day. This afternoon I did some half-sun As outside for a few minutes. Just good to synchronize breath and movement for a few minutes.
Day 18: Took a vinyasa yoga class at the studio where I teach — finally starting to take advantage of my membership! It was a great way to start the week and cool to practice side by side students who attend my classes.
So yesterday was very light again for me, some soft yoga throughout the day and before bed. Due to lack of time more than anything else. I did go to a gong bath last night tho, so I might pop a note on the gong thread later about that. It was an interesting one!
Day 19: attended a yoga class at the YMCA. I always appreciate when I see teachers attend classes where they teach, so it feels natural for me to do that in my own practice. A great way to be a part of a community.
The YMCA is a pretty special organization in my opinion. I went to YMCA summer camp out I the country growing up and attended day camps on school breaks in the city. As an adult I had a period of time where my life really felt like it had fallen apart. I was living at my parents, nearly broke, no job, unsure of how to piece my career back together or what direction to go in…but my parents added me on their Y membership and I started going a lot. I knew I was in a hard time, but I figured, well at least I can get physically healthy. It really saved me. I attended every yoga class I could and then branches outside of my comfort zone and went to HIIT and TurboKick — just being active helped me not fall into total despair. Sometimes the only thing I would do for a day was go to the gym…then come back home and go to bed. But it made me feel at least a little a little accomplished. It changed my life and made me realize how important exercise and the mind-body connection is.
That was almost five years ago, and so much in my life has changed in that time. The Y I attend abd teach at now is in a completely new location, but it still makes me so happy to have that connection.
I am totally crapping the bed this week…
I love yoga with Adriene ! I don’t do yoga often but I do enjoy it I’m obviously quite late joining lol October is almost over but sounds fun!
Day 20 of Yoga October… I was asked again to sub the outdoor class tonight and was happy that I managed to get some other work things accomplished and out of the way to free up my time and teach it. Last one of the season! We lucked out with a beautiful day.
Did a little test of what yoga poses I can do at the moment. Basically only stuff that doesn’t involve legs. Find standing more comfortable than sitting. Not sure if I’ve pulled my sartorius muscle or rectus femoris. Got some hip discomfort too which I guess is from a combination of resting and walking with a limp!
Did manage a gentle bridge pose and boat (with toes from one or both feet on the floor).
Not sure I will be up for doing full videos etc any time soon. To be honest the feeling of constant discomfort is getting me down a bit. My heart and immense admiration really goes out to those with chronic pain, I don’t know how you manage but you do and you’re amazing for it
Went back and did one of the videos I had missed, yoga belly. I found the belly breathing hard work but enjoyable and beneficial. Then followed with a short yoga nidra. Satisfying practice but very sore in the lower back again
@siand sorry to hear you are still in the wars. Hoping it heals up quickly for you
Have you tried some restorative yoga? Perhaps you could use props to do a supported bridge and some other poses to help relieve discomfort.
Day 21: Taught a 65+ yoga class at the senior community center. I love the group of women who come to this class. Tomorrow I’m theming a class around poses that help get towards a split (something I absolutely cannot do, haha), so today I worked with some of those poses/movements and gently getting into hips and hamstrings.
Thank you! It is so much better today. Mainly walking without a limp. Am going to try my friend’s in person yoga class in the morning and if all goes well will be back to daily yoga after that
@MagicILY any recommendations for restorative yoga online?
Really enjoyed the yoga class yesterday, a few things I couldn’t so but just propped my leg on some blocks and worked on the good side.
This morning I did a self guided yoga flow, very gentle and just leaned in to what felt good! Will get back to the videos tomorrow morning and aim to do the last week of the playlist
Day 24. I’m completely out of sync with the videos. Oh well. I did a couple I had missed earlier. The ones for the end of the month look fun tho.
OK so I didn’t get up in time yesterday but I did today! Decided to do the video from day 21 as I love her movement as medicine series. Do feel more energised for it after waking up soo sleepy. Still had to make a couple of adjustments for my leg but definitely getting there!
