Thank you for checking in with us Doris - I am so sorry that you are experiencing these rough times. Do know you don’t have to go through them alone - we are here for you. You already know the vicious cycle isolation and depression and then relying on our DOC can be - please lean on us to help you. Hopefully go to some in person meeting as well.
When is your trip? Airplanes can cause a bunch of anxiety for sure. Maybe others here will have better coping mechanisms - a few that come to mind are — deep breathing, making sure you dress comfortable, have good music to listen to, possibly something nice to read or some movies/ shows on laptop. Depending on the length of the flight - you may want to take some melatonin and try to sleep?
I find this community to be very helpful when i feel alone - I feel heard here and feel like i’m not going crazy with my symptoms. I do hope that you are able to read around and engage so that you can also gain the beautiful feelings of belonging with this community.

Thank you for checking in!:sparkling_heart: Up and down like usual, but a bit more upbeat lately. Living situation is stressful. Muddling along the soul-sucking job search lol, couple more denials, couple more opportunities. Gotten to spend more time with friends lately, often times they like to go out which isn’t great for my anxiety, but we’ve had some more chill times that were refreshing. I’m also starting to wonder again if I’m dealing with a form of ADHD, the hassle of time/money/trying different meds/finding a good doctor when I do get employed/insurance is daunting, blah. ODAAT

glad to hear you are upbeat lately. sorry about the job search - i know that can be disheartening but don’t give up. Sending you luck!
Its great to hang out with friends - glad that you are able to do some chillaxing - maybe think of activities to do together that don’t necessarily involve drinking - bowling, putt putt, hiking…etc
Sorry about the ADHD - i do hope that you are able to find a good doctor and sort out a med that would be helpful.
Hope to see you on the check in and gratitude thread - staying connected helps us in our recovery and hopefully makes the bad times not feel so bad. :people_hugging:

My trip is this coming weekend, I am very nervous and anxious but it’s funny because now that I’ve started my path to recovery, I don’t feel like I want to reach out to alcohol to calm my nerves. I know I won’t have full control of myself if I do.

But it’s so hard, the way my brain is still holding on to alcohol is insane! It’s hard to explain, but I definitely don’t want to, don’t miss the feeling or even the taste but my brain!!! It’s so fixated that I gotta have it. So weird

Sending you strength and calmness for your upcoming trip. I love reading that you are not relating alcohol as something that would be helpful to calm your nerves. This is huge!

I totally get all the stupid tricks / mind games the addict mind plays. So many false scenarios and false hope of feeling better …etc – all bull shit. It’s best to find ways to keep yourself busy and doing things so that your mind doesn’t have time to indulge these falsehoods.
So good to hear from you - hope to see you around more often :slight_smile:
