2023 Roll Call -- Introduce yourself!

Hi friends :wave:t3:

This ain’t my first rodeo but hopefully it’s my last. The first time I quit everything for my ex husband… we all know how that goes. Drank heavily again after divorcing, tried moderation on and off, and then finally decided to get sober in 2021 after we adopted our infant son. I had about 5/6 months under my belt and my dad died suddenly earlier this year. I got blackout drunk that night and almost every weekend for 2 months. I pulled my head out of my ass and decided to recommit.

That’s when I found this app and I’m almost at 8 months. I have found this place and everyone’s stories to be so helpful. I mostly lurk. Sometimes I post. But I’m always grateful. :purple_heart::v:t3:

Dana I’m so glad to see you. I followed your story and I was here the same time you first popped on. I’m now kicking myself because I could have 300 something days just like you. I’m on day 7 again. Traded pain pills for an alcohol addiction. Sucks. But I’m here! I’m female, 37, 3 daughters and I live in AZ.

Hey I’m Cress and I’m new here…currently have 15 days under my belt, though over the last 7 years I’ve had much longer periods of sobriety from alcohol.

For me it’s been a therapeutic journey I’ve needed to tread to release the childhood trauma I’d been carrying. It’s taken a while but the penny has finally dropped and I understand my repeated use was a coping mechanism, and one I no longer need.

I’m feeling calm and content and not counting the days, but just being present as much as possible and thats pretty wonderful.

Other things about me - I love food, cooking, nature, interior design, I’ve been doing my home renovation in Portugal for the last 5 years, I can’t wait to travel more, I’m getting into gardening and permaculture, and my constant companions are Kip and Lupa :two_hearts:

I’m also really enjoying being a part of this community, so thank you

My name is Emilio, I live in Spain. I have been struggling against alcohol through the last fifteen years. Three last years have been the worst.

I have had several periods of sobriety but current one is the best and I hope the definitive. I an four months completely free of alcohol. I like this community because is similar to AA meetings. It helps me to know people who is my situation and whose life is, in certain terms, similar to mine.

Best luck and pleased to meet you. Enjoy the path of sobriety!

Hi I’m Dan, I’m 38 and from Ireland. I’ve been using this app about a year and after a few relapses with alcohol addiction which made me feel worse as I’m also bipolar. But I am now 20 days sober and feeling really good again and getting counseling etc and between that and this app I feel I’m moving forward again

Nice to meet you all on here

Hi everyone I’m Smitty & a no-shit drunk and at times an aspiring junkie.

I applied myself, to the point of having no power to ever choose wisely once I start. So, I don’t. Grad of Rehab, working my AA program & doing this path daily now over 5 yrs!

Father of 2 great kids/men (WTF?, I’m kinda old). Engaged to the greatest lady who is a big reason I got sober. She made sure I walked in the door to rehab & she’s been sober a day longer than I. We support each other, but work our own programs separate.

TS is part of my recovery, as I read & post on most days (took me 11 to find this one though…) So glad we’re here together, hugs to the new, middle and old timers. If you’re struggling, reach out please.

See ya around!

Hey! I’m also living in Spain.
This is Teresa, I’m 40, 9 months sober and around 4 months nicotine free.
This is my second attempt. First one was 5 months just prior to the lockdown, then it all just went downhill very quickly.
I stay on this app around an hour a day before bedtime, reading here makes me feel grounded into my decision, helps me not drinking on the next day because as I’ve come to learn:
One day at a time!
And if I had to give any advise: stay away fron any event that could trigger your sobriety.
To any of you reading this, if you have any doubts about a wedding, dinner,…don’t go, there is no need for the stress, you have to go first.
Thanks everyone for inspiring me to be a bit more free everyday.

Hola Teresa,
Encantado de conocerte. Ánimo con la sobriedad. Yo también intento evitar cualquier atisbo de negatividad, ya sean personas o hechos. Sólo por hoy!, felices veinticuatro horas!

(Friendly reminder we usually have guideline 9 that threads stay in one language. But given the nature of this thread, and people just trying to be welcoming, we’re letting it go for this one!)
