I’ve been posting some daily readings every day since January 1st, and for the new year I wanted to do things differently.
I had an idea of doing something along the lines of a big book reading and having some shared reflection conversations amongst us.
I recall once upon a time, there was a discussion post I participated in like that. However, those are now gone, so I’m not exactly sure of the format and how it would be best to do this.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on this? I’d love to hear others insight on the readings so I’m pretty excited about this idea.
Let me know what you think and if this is anything you may like to participate in!
Just a thought. My AA group reads a paragraph pauses for any shares. If none we read on. Maybe could post a page from book and folks can comment on content .
I’m on board!
I participated in the one Tomi did a couple years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. When he deleted his account, all those posts got deleted too. How he did it was to have a different person post their thoughts on a chapter weekly, then everyone added their comments after the person did the opening post. He would start a new thread for each chapter, post the link to a pdf, link to prior thread and name of who would be the first post. He PM’d the individual ahead of time.
I don’t attend any big book study meetings so I don’t have any suggestions but I’m sure whatever you decide will be perfectly fine.
Thank you!! Tomi was precisely who I thought of, but couldn’t remember his exact structure and those posts are gone now. Did he do a full chapter each week?
I really like the PDF idea too, I’ll look to see if I can find some. I love the sharing part too. He may he gone, but his presence still lingers for sure-I sure did appreciate his insights.
So many use “The Promises” as a Big Book study page, but I prefer one of the pages that comes directly after it.
"And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone - even alcohol. For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested in liquor. If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame…
We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as if we have been placed in a position of neutrality-safe and protected…instead the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us…This is how we react as long as we keep in fit spiritual condition. pp 84 & 85 Big Book
Yes, he did a chapter a week. He would start the thread a few days early and specify who was going to start us off then that person would post on Sunday and everyone would follow up with their responses over the next week.
I miss Tomi. Hope he’s doing well.
Remember Tomi when he did these readings was good , im taking one of my new guys through the program at the moment an went through the Big book and As Bill Sees It and Living Sober . KEEP ON TRUCKING
What about using the new “Plain Language Big Book - A Tool For Reading Alcoholics Anonymous? It’s a debate around here, so two friends and I decided to start a meeting using it along with the Big Book.
I did manage to snag a first edition, first printing! It contains so minor editing errors, so the second printing will correct those. I think the first run was 70,000 books and they went in a flash!
