One thing I’m really glad about concerning lock down is the amount of time I’ve had to read. I’ve become increasingly aware over the last year or so how little I know about important events in world history so I’ve made a real effort to educate myself. I see so much ignorance and hatred in todays political dialogue that I want to make sure I’m not guilty of the same. And what better way of understanding the present than to look back at the past.

I finished this yesterday:

And just about to start this (it’s about the Rwandan genocide in the 90’s):

Not everyones cup of tea, but some might be interested.

What did you think about the Hiroshima Book?
I just came across this recently on amazon, I think, and it caught my attention.

Really good. It tells the stories of 6 survivors of the bomb and what happened to them afterwards. It’s difficult reading due to the subject, and very powerful. Its certainly not a typical history book and I think I learned more from reading this than a more traditional history text.

Actually I’ve put the book down twice. And I’m having a hard time continuing it. I loved the chapter about how she got the job on Dick Van Dyke. I’m generally a glutton for punishment and I hate to give up on a book. But life’s too short. I read good reviews about After All. By Mary Tyler Moore and I think I’m going to try that one instead.

She was amazing in Ordinary People wasn’t she? It gives me goose bumps just mentioning it.

I listened to the first two books but they haven’t done the third yet so I’m having to read it.

Nothing like a good bit of sci-fi.

Got this yesterday, a book of Soviet era anti-alcohol posters. Pretty cool.

Love this guy Carl Hiaasen

All his books take place in Florida and are so Florida Crazy🤪
This one should be great!!!

It’s the height of the Palm Beach charity ball season: for every disease or cause, there’s a reason for the local luminaries to eat (minimally), drink (maximally), and be seen. But when a prominent high-society dowager suddenly vanishes during a swank gala, and is later found dead in a concrete grave, panic and chaos erupt. Kiki Pew was notable not just for her wealth and her jewels–she was an ardent fan of the Winter White House resident just down the road, and a founding member of the POTUSSIES, a group of women dedicated to supporting their President. Never one to miss an opportunity to play to his base, the President immediately declares that Kiki was the victim of rampaging immigrant hordes. This, it turns out, is far from the truth.
