I frequently end up with book stress in this form:
- reserve a book at the library;
- start reading another book whilst I wait for the requested book:
- requested book comes available half way through reading the other book.
- Now I have an unfinished book vs a book with a return deadline.
It’s happened whilst I’m part way through All The Light We Cannot See Now I also have The Hate U Give which needs to be back in less than 3 weeks. Dare I say, it looks like a shorter read though X

Oh my goodness, I do that with library books all the time. I am glad to hear it isn’t just me. I like your reading selections!

Loved them both! I preferred Demon a bit, but I think I’m in the minority there.

I still haven’t started the other one. I really like Demon too so I’m waiting a while to start her other book so I don’t compare too much lol

Went to my fave bookstore in the city today. Mind blown at the selection! Will head back before I leave.
Just had to share this now - and how it made me instantly think of you @TrustyBird, @erntedank, @Chiron… and so many others!
I think my fave is Anna Purrenina

That Clawdyssey cutie would rule the roost over here. If I have money in my pocket I cannot pass an independent bookstore without buying something, thats my rule. Money well spent.

Yes Clawdyssey is good!
I feel the same about the independents. So I came home with three titles. One fiction (debut novel shortlisted), and 2 creative nonfiction.
I do use the library! But it takes forever to get books thru interlibrary loans where i live. Besides, I unknowingly had $8 store credit from 12 years ago when I lived here!
AND they have added a basement of floor-to-ceiling 2nd hand books (Sunday, M, Sunday)… and they have a shop kitty now too.

Never leave empty handed! Well done. They all look compelling.

Ooo that’s a good rule… the “wait til the pile is down to three” rule. I’m gonna adopt that!

I’m currently reading The Black Angel by John Connoly—the fifth book in his (long) Charlie Parker series of horror/supernatural detective novels.
So far, every book in the series has been great. Very well written. Not for the squeamish, but anyone who likes the 1987 movie Angel Heart (or Falling Angel, the novel that it was based on) will like these books too.
And, a big plus for me is that the main protagonist is a recovering alcoholic.
