I’m currently re-reading Paul Verhoeven’s wonderful and provocative book “Jesus of Nazareth.”

I recently finished:

The Ninth Rain
The Winnowing Flame Trilogy #1
by Jen Williams

It’s a fantasy adventure with a rather rich world-building and characters with interesting personal arcs. The narrative is very well done and includes themes of identity, community and power. I very much enjoyed this one and put the next one in the series on my reading list.

The Book of Form and Emptiness
by Ruth Ozeki

This one is a contemporary novel tackling the themes of loss, grief, mental health, creativity, coming of age, the search for meaning, and human connection with a very zen/buddhist perspective. It took me several attempts to get into the narrative at first, but when I actually took the time it was a great read. If you are looking for emotinal depth and buddhist writing resonates with you, this one is a winner.

Just stared this one, although I’m a tiny bit late. It’s a Christmas book in 25 chapters, so it can be like an advent calendar. Currently on chapter 6, so loads to catch up on.
It’s young adult fiction. Easy read and so far so good.

Holy bloody Nora, the last three books I’ve read have done me right in for Christmas. Ready to just have a lie down and unfold into a warm duvet after these hard hitters.

The only book to ever make me cry :sob: I will never ever get over this book. :sob:

Gorgeous, but not as exceptional as A Little Life. Still 5🌟

This one brought up a lot for me in some respects and made my heart hurt.

… Need a soppy romance now or some crappy beach read… That was the most intense three books I can imagine reading in a row, yet I seemed to willingly manage it.

Merry holidays readers, may 2025 bring you millions of glorious pages.

My Dark Vanessa is quite a novel. Deserves a TW for sure.

My two latest very enjoyable reads…

And…just wow…

I have The God of the Woods in my list and the Richard Powers one…:slightly_smiling_face:

Should I put a TW against My Dark Vanessa?

Oh no, I meant in general!

The God of the Woods isn’t my usual genre, but it flowed really well, despite plenty of plot holes.

Yes I know. It opened my eyes to a particular relationship that I had that was not the same at all, but a bit… So upsetting! But necessary to read stuff like that too.

This is looking like the last book I’ll get through in 2024. Good thing it’s a great one.
