So happy to see public libraries being supported ![]()
I’m alternating between Necropolitics by Achille Mbembe, Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil by Hannah Arendt and Black Liturgies: Prayers, Poems and Meditations for Staying Human by Cole Arthur Riley. All good books that I would recommend especially in the context of the times we are living…Black Liturgies is my anchor though as the other two books are harrowing (if you enjoy Kafka or are familiar with Germany, you will find Arendt’s characterization of Eichmann depressingly hilarious).
Here’s one of my favorite passages from Black Liturgies
A building full of books is one of my happy places. Free unlimited books, be still my heart. ![]()
Just finished reading Lois Lowry’s The Giver. Fell in love with the book in fourth grade. Now onto this guy I just picked up off ThriftBooks ![]()
Love TLOTM!!
Stay alive no matter what occurs! I will find you!
Some of the movie was filmed nearby…waterfalls and rocky area and overlooks!
I started re-reading Tolkien’s books, starting with Silmarillion. What a great way to spend New Year’s Eve!
Thank you for posting those books! As a big fan of military thrillers, I started to read the first book and so far it’s amazing! Have you watched a tv series called SEAL Team? It’s one of the best shows ever.
I have watch every episode of Seal Team when the aired. I’m a huge fan of military books, audibles, movies and series. So what other books have you read?
Currently reading this one:
I’ve read the book multiple times and have seen the movie as well but this book is different. It’s made by a famous Dutch illustrator and she made a comic strip version out of it.
It’s a big hardshell book with 351 pages, very well made!
I have read lots of books about SEALs, SAS and Delta, both non-fiction and fiction. I’m really enjoying Sons of Valor, thank you so much for the tip!
Wow, that illustrated book seems like a real gem! I love the original book, read it when I was younger.
I’ve read two books during the holidays: Murakami was really great, I could really immerse in the book. Exciting and profound.
The vegetarian was on the other hand very difficult to read, it definitely had an influence on me, yet it wasn’t a great experience. Too realistic, overwhelming and heavy for me.
Now I’m reading Foster, so far so good.
Deep Country: Five Years in the Welsh Hills
Deep Country is Neil Ansell’s account of five years spent alone in a hillside cottage in Wales.
Just about to start this.
I love Claire Keegan’s work. ![]()
I finished Foster by Claire Keegan - it was a good read, but somehow didn’t have much of an effect on me.
My next read is ‘Kafka on the shore’ by Murakami, so far it’s really good:
I read simultaneously some self-help books too:
- ‘Everything is fucked’ by Mark Manson. Last year I read ‘The subtle art of not giving a fuck’ by him and that was a really straightforward, great read with spot-on sentences. This is similar, but somehow a bit less impactful:
- ‘Mind power’ by John Kehoe - so far so good, easy to read and very practical:
