Baby birdies thread ❤ And the cockatoo crew ❤

This morning I watched something beautiful happen.

The mum showed the baby how to have a bath.

They both sat there frolicking for about 20 minutes.

It was one of those moments in life where you are in awe of natures beauty

The cutest thing

Tonight at 9pm I got a rouge visitor … a wattle tree bird!

The mum and baby came up onto my window for some food randomly at 9pm.

There are 3 in the garden that are like secret ninjas. They rarely appear and are swift and sneaky!

They zip around like ninjas and are very rare to see.

But they came up to see me!! Well the food anyway lol

They hung around for about ten minutes.

In person, they kinda look like flying merkats lol

They are beautiful birds. Unlike the noisy corella’s around my place still squawking until darkness.

Corella and Cockatoo screeches always remind me of prehistoric creatures.

Can you imagine when the likes of Captain Cook first landed in Oz and heard those ear piercing sounds?

That’s amazing @apes2020!
9pm? I thought birds went to bed early?:woman_shrugging:

Wattle birds! So that’s what they’re called! How interesting-the little pinky red things hanging down either side of their beaks are called ‘wattles’!

I thought they would be called ‘Wattle’ birds because they hung around in wattle trees?!

I find them to be very, very shy! It’s hard to get up close for a good look, but you seem to have no trouble!!
The pics are mainly of the baby?
Doesn’t seem to have a ‘wattle’? Looks very different to adult wattle.
What did you feed them?

Hey Bird :eagle: Lady! Do you want to know something fascinating about Australian birds that l only found out about recently??!

The term Black Swan originates from the (Western) belief that all swans are white because these were the only ones accounted for. However, in 1697 the Dutch explorer Willem de Vlamingh discovered black swans in Australia. This was an unexpected event in (scientific) history and profoundly changed zoology.

I know,I can hear all the Dutchies on TS already!!

‘See, we didn’t just invent the pickle, we discovered the black swan!’

Pretty cool though, hey? That up until that point, they thought that black swans were a mythical creature that didn’t exist in reality!!

Yet they had been living, undiscovered,in harmony and freedom on an island under the hot red sun for thousands of years,if not more. :swan: :swan::swan::heart:
