Bird watching

Wow, Seb! That speckled bird and the one with the red head are awesome. Do you know what kind they are?

I was taking photos of plants and flowers in my parents backyard today when Bundy ran up to me, excited to see me (it’s been a couple weeks since my last visit).

There is some crows that have been hanging out at my job and a few people have been feeding them Stuff from leftover prep work. They are pretty cool and I think the same one keeps hanging out I’m not sure if it is though. I ordered this for the crows. A few of us have started researching about crows and trying to learn about them. I guess we’ll see if they like this food or not when it gets delivered! When I go out back of my job and I see them I sometimes try to talk to them because you never know maybe they can hear what I’m saying.

A) crows are smart as fuck. No joke. Super duper smart birds. And even though they’re a bit dark (love fields and generally they have 9000 of their closest homies with them), I find them awesome. But I’m a huge, huge bird lover. My favorite thing about living in Florida.

B) they’ll crush that food in like a day, just fyi.

Yeah crows are one of my favorite animals or birds. I feel like mainly there is the same one coming to the dumpster outback of my restaurant every day or flying around and I think they definitely recognize me now because I’ve been feeding them chicken and other things from my leftover shift meal. There is this fence that goes along the back of the property and I might put some kind of bowl With a little bit of the corn periodically. I’m guessing they are like raccoons and they pretty much eat anything

I’m in Northeast Florida. I didn’t see these crows till recently and probably because it’s warmer out maybe and maybe they can smell the food in the dumpster or something like that. But I don’t remember them being here last year during the summer so I’m not sure about where they usually hang out at. Plus the food I got also says for ravens but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen them in real life. As far as crows Somebody at my work said they remember faces. Not sure if that’s true

Crows, ravens and grackles all look somewhat similar. Crows and ravens definitely have a huskier feather jacket than do grackles. And they’re deeper black. Grackles are dope though. Funny thing is I lived in Austin Texas and the grackles would sing all day. It’s a very, very distinguished song. Austin sounds like a grackle, that’s how I remember the city. In central Florida, plenty of grackles, but they don’t sing. It’s odd. Noisiest birds in St Pete FL are the parakeets, by far. You can hear them from a mile away. And they whip around like they’re on acid. Gorgeous birds though.

You definitely do have the bird knowledge thank you. My brother lives in Austin I’ll ask him if he hears these birds singing.. the grackles.. I never really thought about birds before but the crows definitely have me thinking and looking for other birds that are in my area.

Actually on a different note recently I was wondering why certain birds talk or chirp at night but mostly they don’t. I keep my window open because I like hearing the nighttime sound when I sleep and the trains and stuff. But every once in a while I will hear one single bird making noise and then I start thinking damn that bird has insomnia too. Even certain birds have insomnia. And I’m not talking about owls just some kind of regular bird.

Found a fledgling mourning dove on the ground in my backyard this morning. Under a tree, but no nest in sight. Seemed very lethargic, I only knew it was alive because it would blink occassionally and I could see it breathing. No walking, no flapping.

Gave it a few hours to see if it would wake up a bit and figure things out, but after no change, I scooped it up and brought to the local wildlife rehab. Got home about a half hour later and they called me to come back for it, as it is apparently totally healthy and apparently being fed by mom/dad.

So it’s back in my yard now, in the shade of the tree I had found it under. Put a bowl of water near it and hope for the best. Just gotta keep my nosy Waldo away from it.

Edit: update, momma bird has arrived and is sitting w/ her baby  I feel better now seeing that baby is definitely being looked after.

Thanks!

Wish I knew how the story ended. I was checking on it throughout the day. Eventually momma bird left and it was on its own again, sitting in the shade. Towards the end of the day it was gone. I checked around the yard and no sign of it.

Hoping it figured out flying or something. The wildlife center did say it was close to knowing how. Really just hope one of the neighborhood cats didn’t get to it. Leaning towards the nicer outcome, since there was no mess or guts around.

Anyhow. I’m glad I did what I could for it.

Oh but now we can make up our own ending. And keeping it a lovely positive beginning for the life of a bird. Lol
