I’ve seen a few posts about how to celebrate sober and it’s something I’ve been thinking about a bit recently. I had a really good appraisal at work yesterday, I’m going to be leading on some exciting projects and helping to set the direction for a new team AND maybe even using some of the skills I’m picking up in my MSc.
I got home and my partner is super stressed and it was Monday night and there were chores to do and it was a bit of an anti-climax. So… I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can share our achievements and good news and cheer each other on a bit.
I love this and that’s wonderful about your positive appraisal at work I’m really happy for you, you deserve it! It’s really nice you can celebrate your achievements with us.
Thank you It was a bit of a surprise. My manager is really hands off so while I know nothing is going terribly or anything, I wasn’t expecting to have the new opportunities coming my way!
Congratulations and celebrations well done you should feel good about yaself you have done Brill. It’s funny how we can build up that others in our lives will feel the same and be as excited and when they arnt its abit of a let down…keep ur positive energy flowing and get ya partner dancing with u about it lol xx
I keep a “victory” file in my desk. Any positive notes, or texts etc…I print and keep them. When you’re having a bad day you can look at it quickly and realize the impact we can have on people. It’s important to do positive inventories.
Yesssss…congratulations lady! It’s amazing the roads that sobriety carries us down, ones we didn’t even know were there. Great work! And great thread idea…if we are going to be here to help each other through our tough moments we might as well get to cheer each other through our high points…cheers to you and yours
Congratulations. I completely agree. We should focus on these important moments. I read once that there its another culture where birthdays were not celebrated but if an individual felt they had reached an important milestone then the tribe would celebrate.
It is sad in America how celebration has become linked to alcohol or unhealthy cake. Would be nice to just have a circle of friends all say how great you are.
When i lived in England we would have our tea. We should sit and talk for 10 minutes. You would be focussed on conversation and time would slow. Life seems to have become a to-go cup.
To start with I was celebrating things with sweet treats but now I’m doing sugar free so that’s out. Being English I already drink quite a lot of tea But I might get some extra fancy tea for special occasions!
Really though I agree, just sharing successes with people who care about you is probably the most meaningful way of celebrating whether that’s birthdays or milestones.
Thank you @siand! I was at the beach with my family for the weekend Walking at the beach, quality time with my kids and husband
Had a lovely time! Even see some seals
So today is a good one. 9 months no booze, 4 months no nicotine, 1 month no sugar.
Cauliflower cheese for dinner. Cheese can be my way of celebrating I don’t eat much dairy at all now so it works as a nice treat every now and then. Plus it’s delicious.
Was thinking about starting a new thread but the title of this one works for the idea I had…
Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of BIRTHDAYS! On TS and in my local fellowship and it got me to thinking about a way to share celebrations for time collected or anything that says “success” to each of us.
My idea is this: On birthdays, get a dessert that you love and take a picture of it, you eating it, feeding it to your cat or partner or whoever and share it on here! Could be fun to see who you might be sharing a birthday with, getting to know each others favorite celebration foods or beveys (hopefully non-alocholic) and for me, just giving me an excuse to eat more ice cream because I love that shit! I believe the more engaged I become with this thread, the more I want it to succeed in its mission to be open to any and all who struggle with their addictions and recovery.
ps I enjoy a good roast, playful banter, flirting, comedy, drama, motorcycles, kats and doges, video games etc etc but always remember
Well done @siand . It has been a long time since I was an employee but I remember that it is also a fantastic feeling to be able to give a great appraisal as well. That was until I went for an interview with a housing association last week for an apartment by the sea. In their words I blew them away ( I was only being honest) and O walked away with the biggest high, better than any chemical could give me. In the meantime I have today moved into a beautiful apartment as temporary accommodation and I am incredibly grateful for how things have panned out since I was sleeping rough a few months ago.
