Checking in daily to maintain focus #21

Don’t worry about remembering everything. People may let you know you’ve pissed them off! Step 10 is there for when things occur to you later. It can be an evolving process. It was with me. :flushed:  :v:

@Mno happy birthday!! I’m a little late to the party but just got around to checking in lol

@anon28001181 congrats on reaching that milestone man, that’s huge. You’re killing it!

@TSan This is exactly how I feel about everyone here! I only have one friend who is sober and that’s because of a medical issue not a choice, and because of that medical issue he can’t go out at all during the pandemic so I never see him anymore.

My closest friends who I have told about my sobriety now act like I’m highly allergic to booze and I’ll drop dead if they even talk about alcohol around me  I’ve tried to explain that I’ve decided I’m not a drinker anymore but I really don’t care what they do around me. It takes some convincing I guess lol. I try to just be grateful that they care about me enough to try to be sensitive about it possibly triggering me.

I wouldn’t know what to do with TS and all you guys!

@Tomek I’m glad you have some options to look into, I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time but I hope today is a good day.

Hello, all. Today will be #70, Huge! I’m so tempted to celebrate with my family tonight, but I read a post here about someone cracking open a bottle of chardonnay after 1 year and downing the whole thing. That helped. The only thing that works is for me to run through the process of what will follow if I give in. Keep going back to if you control it, can you enjoy it? If you enjoy it, can you control it? The answer is no.
Need to keep my eye on the ball.

That’s the problem once the days start to add up! I read an interesting fact somewhere that our brains are wired to forget painful experiences. So once we have had several months away from drinking, it’s easy for us to forget the horrible effects that drinking had us; whether it’s the physical pain or the destruction it caused in our lives.

Naturally It’s easier to remember the “fun” aspects of drinking like socializing and that temporary relaxation we get from the first few drinks, before it all inevitably turns bad.

We have to work hard to consciously remind ourselves of the overwhelmingly negative side effects of drinking and make sure we don’t pick up that first drink.
