Oh yay!
To read for me: The Unexpected Joy…, Quit Like A Woman and Annie Grace’s The Alcohol Experiment.
Have read and liked: Nothing Good Can Come From This by Kristi Coulter, Blackout by Sarah Hepola, This Naked Mind by Annie Grace, We are The Luckiest by McKowen (this one flipped my mental script from “I can’t” to “I don’t have to drink”), Lush by Kerry Cohen and Drinking by Caroline Knapp. The last one by Knapp is a little dated but I 1st read it way back in my 20s when I first suspected a problem. I re-read it last year and it still holds up.

At the risk of becoming the woman on the bus that everyone edges away from I’d like to share a few more that helped me heal in other areas.

The Comfort Book by Haig for depression
Mating in Captivity by Perel for relationships
The Body Keeps the Score by Van Der Volk for trauma healing
The Moth Presents All These Wonders to cure loneliness
Tiny Beautiful Things by Strayed to open your heart
and
World of Wonders by Nezhumatathil to make you want to take a walk outside.

If you can’t tell I spend a lot of time in books. I’m always happy to take and give recommendations. Happy reading and happy healing friend.

First of all you probably know that 2500 cal will only cause you to gain less than a pound. So you’re not going to get 100 pounds right now. You are wanting to talk about this which is good. You also said that you are counting calories. I think that if you were good with counting the calories, Personally I think it’s a good thing to do when you’re out of control. Then I think it might help you if you posted the calories here on the talking sober on the weight loss thread. You will be able to be accountable then and you will get support. Sugar will make you eat more sugar. Cheetos will make you eat more Cheetos. Having the healthy food around is good. I know you know everything to do but it’s hard to do it and I understand that I have the same problem a lot of times. For me being aware of the calories coming in is good. A few times when I wanted to eat something super high calorie or say eat those five cookies. I’ve put them in the counter before I eat them. Other times yes I’ve just eaten stuff and I’ve never put it in and I get that. Why don’t you try for a week or so and see how this works for you and see if it can put a halt to the binging. You could double post and put on the binging thread too. You’re doing great with your sober days. Increase your activity as you can and try to get a handle on your eating. With accountability here. I hope this helps. Nice vegetable soups are good Because they are filling, nutritious and low calorie. @Butterflymoonwoman

Coffee. Thanks for all the support yesterday friends. I think and feel the interview went pretty well. Although if there’s another one I need to think of my story better. It went a bit here and there this time. Still I liked the way it went and the folks I did the interview with. They asked me to come back and participate in half a day of working. So that’s what I’m going to do this morning. Sober and clean.

Hoping for a good day for all of you too, or at least as good as you all can make it. Make it clean and sober to begin with. Love to you all.

@ShesGotMoxie Huge congrats on 8 months Carolyn!
@Deep Big congrats on 30 days Deep!
@michaeljlogan74 Excellent work on a month Michaek, congrats!

Hey, I hear you loud and clear. It is scary for me too and I also gained 100 lbs when I came off meth and that of course triggered my eating disorder into overdrive.

I have a huge hand to mouth “self soothing” habit. I am a drug smoker, a cigarette smoker, a drinker, a pen chewer, actually an anything chewer if it’s in my hand. I found that just filling that hand to mouth habit was enough and I did that with water.

Why don’t you try getting one of those 3 litre water jugs and drink that all day. See if it feeds the need you have… maybe you’re like me.

Hey Dana.
I hate to see you struggling and beating yourself up over this weight issue. Yes. You are doing so fucking wonderful not using. And your almost coming up on 60 days. I think maybe your addict mind is what’s fucking with you and trying to mess you up. Possibly. Maybe. I hate seeing you be so hard on yourself. Because you are killing it, fighting this addiction. Slow and steady. And it’s still early right now for you. I don’t know…… I did Noom and I spent a lot of time logging my calories in my phone instead of drinking and that helped distract my mind off of more wine and cocktails, and helped me learn, Holy Shit!! I’m eating a lot of calories! But I’m sober!! And eventually I made some adjustments along the way. Do you walk much? Working out always made me wicked hungry. I been doing a couple of short walks a day. Like 20- 30 minutes. It’s helping me a lot. And I don’t worry about it if I miss a work out now and again.
Anyway…… just wanted to weigh in :scream: no pun intended. I’ll see my self out now . Let’s get another day tomorrow. Cut yourself some slack as you reach 60 days. And YOU WILL reach 60 days and maybe regroup after that.
Take care sweet lady.

Thank you Marianna. Take care.

Hey there Dana, I joined Noom early January. It has helped me in understanding the different types of eating and how to deal with triggers around social eating, emotional eating, portion sizes amongst other fantastic things. You can still eat your regular foods. I find it very interesting as it is not just about weight loss but more so about behavioural change. I have lost 17kgs in that time. It’s not cheap but I think it’s worth it. Good luck with your challenge.

Great news Menno! The fact that you can work half a day already says something. Good luck, you can do it! Laat ons weten hoe het is gegaan en wat je ervan vond. Ben benieuwd :facepunch:

Ahhh I’m so sorry you have to go through this. It is recognizable. Addicts do everything to extremes. Extreme use without brake or if they have stopped using look for a replacement. That can be eating or exercising and in my case working a lot. Which is also unhealthy and that I also have to face because that many works prevents me from looking at myself. I also had that I ate too much and gained a lot of weight. The focus is too much on the food. Do you have enough distractions? What helped me the most during that period was a consultation with a dietician. She made a diet especially tailored for me. For example, it is better for me not to drink cow’s milk and to take a loaf of other grains instead of wheat bread. It has helped me immensely. No more hunger pangs and a normal eating pattern so you can focus on something else again. Anyway good luck you have overcome so much, there is also a solution for this.

Do you know those moments where you notice something that changed so slowly in time, you didn’t really notice before ?
Untill all of a sudden you have that “now wait a minute” moment, wondering how that happened and when it happened ?

I never cared much for flowers. I loved white orchids and that’s all.
As for the garden, I used to be a big fan of the special bred black and red mix of voilets.
Red and black were the dominant colours in my life anyway.

So how did I end up with a home full of flowers, mostly white and pink ?

Guess it means my state of mind changed drastically in those two years…

They are all silk and plastic though, real ones would be gone in no time with me being away half of the year…
