Checking in daily to maintain focus #44

Lifelong (pretty much) hobby… in fact, I paid most of my way through graduate school with the help of working as a restaurant magician in Edmonton every weekend for 2.5 years.
It was great.
I got away from it for a number of years, but am getting back into it now. I don’t know that anything will come of it, but it’s fun.

Other than that… my next target is a fortnight. I’m currently on 11 days (like @maxwell), and - I think - doing pretty well. Someone offered me a glass of wine yesterday, but I deflected and ended up with a glass of Fanta.

Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning all. Quick check-in on day 306. Just finished my first shift at my new job and had to say it went much better than I expected. Adapted very quickly and was well liked and told I was doing things people who have been there months weren’t comfortable doing. Saying the wrong thing at the wrong time can send someone into a frenzy so it can be mentally exhausting. But satisfied with my first day. Hope everyone stays safe and takes care!

Awesome job man!

Checking in day 56. Beach day with my wife, son, and pup. Only stayed for an hour or so. Found myself thinking about what to do without booze. In the past I would have grabbed a few tall boys and a 12 pack and probably a pint of whiskey and just drank and swam on repeat. Still the hour we spent there was more quality time with my kid than 6 hours would have been drinking at the same beach. Anyways, stinkin thinkin. Didn’t act upon it and didn’t plan to. That’s all I got for today. Back to work tomorrow after vacationing back in Michigan. Hope you all keep grinding and improving in your lives, as I plan on doing in mine. Much love!

I find myself in the same mindset now. Everything is happening for a first again it feels like. I have my birthday coming up and I don’t really remember prior birthdays so am excited to remember this one! But have often compared what else I’d be doing and the alternative is never good.

Oh, I didn’t know I was supposed to have my life together at 20. Guess I failed that part :joy: But you’re on the right track aren’t you? You’re making alot of progress so don’t stress it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, a sober (and fabulous ) birthday! :tada:

Hey you, you’re always here lifting others up and on your birthday you deserve to feel worthy of being celebrated, there’s nothing ungrateful about that. I’m really sorry to hear your family is being so difficult about it, sending birthday support
Also love the new color, it looks great on you! A good choice 🤌

To let you in on a little secret: I’m 56 and I still haven’t got it together. Working on it though. Which I never could when I was in active addiction. You are working on it too, ODAAT, at 20 already! You got over 30 years on me Megan. You’re going places, good ones, I’m sure of it. Congrats. Lots of Love. Big hugs. Love your hair too.

Coffee (yes @BrianP caffeine withdrawal sure is a thing). Feeling cautiously optimistic. Walked 10k yesterday and didn’t feel all worn out when I was finished. Saw some pretty blooming stuff here and there. Getting a little bit better one day at a time. Sober and clean.

Going to catch some more sunshine today. Think I’ll :bike: to the organic growers/farming/shopping thing on the other side of town. Easy does it. Have as good a day as you all can friends. Make it clean and sober or nothing will come of it. Love from my walk yesterday.

@Fury Huge congrats Chris! Excellent work.

Checking in on the 410th day free from the insanity of active alcoholism. Day 2 in the new job was great yesterday. I learned the role they brought me on for will entail much more complexity and responsibility after my training program that lasts about 18 months than I initially thought (substantially higher compensation with it too though so that’s exciting).

A great friend I haven’t seen since we did cool guy stuff in Iraq together came over last night with his wife and his son I had yet to meet. We talked and laughed late into the night. Not a drop of booze in sight. Our personal relationship used to revolve around getting plastered. This dynamic was more fulfilling. They’ll come over again tonight before they hit the road back across the country.

Hitting the gym as I type this before heading in to work. Have a great day everyone. It’s a great day to be above ground and sober.

@Fury congratulations on your two years Chris! You are an inspiration to us all.

@SadMemeQueen glad to hear that you’ll be doing daily check in’s! :two_hearts: I’m sorry to hear about your traumatic birthday experiences. It sounds like your family didn’t really support you through that time in your life and that really sucks… but it’s good to recognize these triggers and do what you can to take care of yourself mentally and spiritually. I hope your week of activities goes well and helps to lift your spirits a little bit. Just know that we are glad to have you around and really appreciate hearing from you :hugs: And love the hair color!

Checking in on day… 17? I think… I checked my clock before coming here to read everyone’s posts but ADHD brain caused me to forget :rofl:

I have two days of work left before my camping vacation begins! :camping: There’s lots of things left to do in preparation for that, so in my free time that’s what I’ll be doing. I’ve got a decent group of people all coming with me! Yay for group camping/bonding experiences :two_hearts: I’m going to be using this weekend as a break from technology too, so I probably won’t be checking in for those days.

Until then, I hope everyone has a lovely day! :sun_with_face:

Omg had such a strong using dream last night. So much so i woke up and felt hungover. The mind is a crazy thing. It took me awhile to convince myself this was just a dream and i didnt have to restart my clock. Thank goodness.

Off to a rough morning already. Christmas before last, I screwed up my shoulder. Those stimulus checks had just come out, and I went to the liquor store to get stuff for me and my two roommates. Slipped on some ice and my shoulder was either cracked, broken, sprained or dislocated. Hasn’t bothered me in ages till a few days ago it started hurting again. Every time I shift in my sleep, the pain makes me wake up.
So I’ve had about 3 hours of sleep. Gonna try to go back to bed.

Good morning :sun_with_face:

On my first 15 and figured I would check in. Easy start to the day . Work till 4. Going to make sure to eat and hydrate. Not drink more then one watermelon red bull ! Smile on the phone when I make calls . Don’t look at the computer clock. I might go to the beach when I get off. That would only be a 4 mile Difference biking home. Looking forward to getting paid on Friday and I can start working on a weekly budget. Most importantly I need to breathe. I need to Stay busy even when I don’t want to. So I can stay on the path

Hope everybody has a good day

Day 680

This morning was pretty lazy, but this afternoon I did a couple of things I have been putting off for ages, and they were much more painless than I expected. Yay! I hope that encourages me to tackle more stuff.
