Day 1402.

Build a new life.

It’s not just about stopping drinking.

Stopping drinking is the first step, but the most important step is changing your life. And that change is inevitably linked to the first one.

A new life needs new things, and those new things are up to you.

Find a hobby. Build new social relationships.

Those new experiences change who you are because, although you will always be an alcoholic and the illness remains, you no longer have the habit of drinking.

You become a different person.

The old self has died. The new self must take precedence. It has to become the most important part of your life.

You have to look for things that belong to your new life. You have to find new motivations.

Be someone new without losing your identity.

Something has to change, because you are already different.

You are no longer drinking.

You are finally becoming your true self.

Day 241

10 days off from work now. Albeit some of that will be driving family to and from hospital it’s a welcome change. Felt good that I didn’t have the urge to celebrate the start of the start of the holiday with a drink.

I’m enjoying the hot weather here in the UK, but feel sorry for my dogs.

Wishing everyone a solid sober 24

Checking in on our last tow. It should fill the boat and we head in after.

Fastest trip of the season and first turn and burn.

SC got drunk and quit just before we left. We had a new guy and he is the best one yet. I think he is going to work out.

With sc gone there was no drugs no drinks. That guy is high maintenance. Good riddance… it feels a lot better with him gone.

I think turn and burn is the plan. I feel good. Ive been on my all star sober A game every day, running every position on this boat.

A drink feels far away.. im going to keep it that way!

Ok. So, how’s this for a start. Now I’m eating around 160 grams of chocolate almost every night. I’m terrified, I have diabetes 2, and I’m somehow explaining myself that it’s ok, because it’s helping me to get past my cravings to drink. Im explaining that it isn’t as dangerous… but it is, I know. Diabetes is just one of those illnesses that you don’t realize, before it’s too late. It’s really typical behavior from me, just wave it off and think that it won’t hurt me. I’m really happy that I haven’t drank. Im not sure what to do. I mean I do, but I don’t know how. What the hells going on in my head, now that I’ve finally found willpower to stop one, I’m substituting it for something else.

Checking in
I had a good day at work. Today I met a colleague, with whom I’ve had some tension lately, for the first time since my holidays. I decided to be civil and not dwell on our arguments of the past, she did the same and the day was quite calm without bad vibes in the office!
After work I went to the gym for 2 hours, and now everything hurts, but in a good way! I hope I’ll get a good nights rest, the last 2 nights have been the best in the past 2 months!
Once I got home my 84 year old neighbor was already asking ā€œwhere I have been for so longā€ She controls me more than my mom! I had a ā€œtortilla espaƱolaā€ waiting for me, this lady makes the best tortillas in Mallorca! So dinner is also ready for me! Feeling blessed! :innocent:

@puzzled Way to go with your caffeine free days - creeping up on 3 months is awesome  :muscle:

I am happy to read that part. It does suck when our brains work against us. You are sick and deserve to rest at home. No way are you playing sick or avoiding anything. Shut that noise down and take care of yourself. Sending healing vibes your way. :hugs: YEAH to naps - glad your body the rest it needs!
@Tragicfarinelli Oh man I am sorry love. This heat is insane here and even with the ac at times feels too hot to handle. I don’t know how you and my European friends are handling without AC. Sending you cooling vibes. This will pass - many cooling thoughts till it does :hugs: :ice:
@Marieke Grateful you made it through the emotional day and your depression is lifting :hugs: Sorry about the group. I hope that the heavy topic does not weigh on you. Here if you need. :hugs:
@ceejayboi Well done on your double digits! Sober and happy - this is the life indeed! Keep up the amazing work :muscle: :tada:
@apes2020 YIPPEE Double digits and a yummy dessert to celebrate! Way to go April  :tada: What did you pick for your next binge watch? Keep going strong :muscle: OOH reading for the win - haven’t heard of it - hope you enjoy :open_book:
@JasonFisher WOW - cool that the trip went so fast. I am glad you got a good replacement working with you now. That makes a hell of a difference… Yeah to no drugs or drinks around
@Carved_in_time Your body is reaching for the sugar that it is missing from the alcohol. By going back to drink you are not helping your diabetes any cause Alcohol has SOOO much sugar. Being a diabetic it does make it harder to wean off the alcohol and the sugar. Look for sugar free options or diabetic friendly desserts to quench the urge. Do not go back to drinking. This surge in sugar is temporary as your body detoxes from the alcohol. For me it took a good 6 months to a year to stop eating ice cream every night. It is different for everyone. You are on the right path… keep going strong :muscle: :hugs:
@Jesile Your neighbor asking after you made me laugh. Sweet for someone to be concerned and looking out for you. YUMMY dinner ready too - that is lovely

Checking in on Thursday late afternoon
1296 days free of alcohol and weed
1711 days free of cigarettes
Still not feeling great and last night was horrific. Some crazy nightmares for when I did manage to sleep which had me confused and discombobulated when I woke up.
I am grateful to be moving about today as I had things to get done. Got my delivery done. Got some time with my mom too which was nice. Spent 1.5 hours waiting in a car while the maintenance guys worked on the AC unit for my brother (he was at work so I helped out). I hate roof top units. This roof was too tall for us to get on top of so I’m glad these guys came equipped with tall ladders. Turned out the fuse came loose during the last storm so we were only charged for the inspection fee. Was able to have a video chat with my cousin from England which helped the time go by. Got in a 1 hour lay down before coming into work. Work is ok - Looking forward to going home and resting (yup - more resting).

This heat has calmed down a bit as we are now in the high 80’s (30’s) rather than high 90’s (36’s) but the humidity is still intense and unbearable. I am so very grateful for a working AC and fans.
Wishing everyone a wonderful addiction free day - sending you all so much love

Day 9 - Checking in

Another day off today recovering from this virus. The day has rather drifted by and I’m not sure what I have really done. But I feel better than I did. I have no cravings today. Which is a blessing.

Not much else to report. Onwards and upwards.

OOH that jonesing feeling is the pits. You are stronger than those cravings - concentrate on the positives and keep that distraction train going… Remember to also to practice self care — One moment at a time :muscle: :hugs:
