Rebuilding my sobriety from the ground up isn’t easy but it’s the path that I chose. I’m dealing with a lot of shame, which is warranted, I think. I know how to recover. I have access to lots of information to do it even better. I just need to stop sabotaging my own path forward. Sending love to those in the early days and those who are struggling right now.
My heart is broken @Its_me_Stella. You gave Nugget the best life possible and she will remain in your heart forever. It will be a big adjustment not having your shadow. I wish I were closer to give you big hugs.
R.I.P Nuggie
Bet you’re happy to see Lyric and Annie. The 3 of you get to run and play again.
Checking in day 359. @Its_me_Stella I can so relate to your wedding experience, and the sheer somatic reaction surfacing after so much time! I ran into an ex recently, and it sounds like what you went through. I’m so grateful that I texted a friend from here immediately, and got myself grounded. Then, I’m grateful that I was able to start talk therapy. I cannot believe how much I was stuffing and repressing. I thought it was just bills and other mail that I ignored. Grateful that you stopped by to share. It keeps recovery real when I see longtimers still working on it. Sorry for the loss of your dog, too. I know how hard that is. Take good care of yourself. And Thanks, @EFountains for the reminder; my AA home group is my go-to place, and a few close friends from there are go-to for a hug. There’s nothing like life IRL. Sober and clean.
Back to work this morning. Please remind me to not read my work mail early in the AM. A person is up for admittance whose details scare me. First impulse is to call in sick. I won’t but it sucks.
Late last night something changed in my mood from very good to feeling old fashioned anxious, scared, lonely. Maybe it was a premonition. Hoping sharing here helps a bit. Sigh. I’m not triggered to use but the flight response is there. Alcohol just doesn’t feel attractive as a method to flee.
I remember from my youth how I often hoped to wake up ill so I could be in bed and get the attention my mum got (who was often in bed sick). But I never did. I do remember once I actually had the flu and was in bed downstairs and pampered and taken care off and how good that felt despite feeling lousy.
Just like in the past I’m not ill today. I’m not the same though. I learned. I’m going to make today as good a day as I possibly can. Remember my tools and use 'm. Sharing is one. Showing up for myself another. Acknowledge my feelings and not hiding from 'm. I’m sober and clean. We’re in this together. Much love from the outskirts of town.
@Its_me_Stella So sorry for your loss friend. Thanks for sharing here. Much hugs and much love your way
Snap. I used to do the same. Pretend to be sick, to get taken to my nans to be looked after instead of school. We are just wounded kids, wanting love. Feel the love from within that you care about yourself today. I care too. Be strong pal. We got this.
Nearly ten hours sleep later and I’m fresher of spirit. Thanks for the kind words. Just a PSA : when you feel the feels, act. Sleep, go to a meeting, exercise, journal, eat. Don’t drink or pick up. Nothing would be better if I had a hangover now. That boil I thought I would lance with annihilation would be there still ugly. Be good.

Yesterday there where a lot of naps and very little energy. I did have a fun evening painting so that cleared up my mood a lot!
Today I woke up a bit wobbly. I slept uneasy and my legs feel like pudding. I also feel really restless which I always get after spending a couple of days resting. So mind and body must find a balance today. I will start with a little walk to get some fresh bread and I after that we’ll see. Today I will just go with the flow.
Just another work/ eat/ sleep type of day. Pumping some good hours this week. Lots of overtime. Hopefully my mind will let me sleep when I need to. Eating very well and im sober. If i can achieve good sleep then ill be quite content with the big days.
AF 7766 @Its_me_Stella, we had dogs for 21 years, then went a few months without, then another 10 years with Sam. Our house has been without a dog for over a year now. I well understand how pets complete a household, and the ache that is left when they are gone. May healing touch your heart today.
I persisted in my search for this one guy to ask him to sponsor me, and my efforts bore fruit yesterday. So, kind of like with the pets, I had a sponsor for the first 15 years of my sobriety, then did not for about 5 years, and again I have that relationship today. Like Stella reminded us, even after years of sobriety, life stuff happens, our things we hoped we’d never have to deal with get thrown in our faces, etc. And our addict brains need help to deal with and let go, so our human souls can heal.
Great reading from 24 hours a day, I will share it on the inspirational quotes thread also, but just for y’all…..
Meditation for the Day
Be expectant. Constantly expect better things. Believe that what (is) in store for you is better than anything you ever had before. The way to grow old happily is to expect better things right up to the end of your life and even beyond that. A good life is a growing, expanding life, with ever-widening horizons, an ever-greater circle of friends and acquaintances, and an ever-greater opportunity for usefulness.
Prayer for the Day
I pray that I may await with complete faith for the next good thing in store for me. I pray that I may always keep an expectant attitude toward life.
