Smashing it!
What input. Your post was encouraging, and I envy your positive outlook and dang…. What a great phrase your friend said. I’ll have to remember that one also. Congrats on your 35 days sober with just one day of drinking. That could have been 35 days of drinking, but you did that…. You had the discipline and desire to stop, and you’ll have it again!
Checking in… for the second time today!
I finally had a good day, I went to the gym, and spent some time at the pool with the girls. Pool season is almost over, 2 more weeks to go, that gives me some sad vibes, I like the Summer. But hey, seasons come and go!
Tomorrow I’m back to my normal routine, and finally I’m looking forward to it! I have so much work stacked up (I just checked my work mail - big mistake!) I texted with a former colleague, I appreciate her a lot, and she told me “take it easy, they won’t build a monument for you”. That’s what I’ll do, just go with the flow! High season, I’m ready for you! ![]()
Congrats on one year. Huge accomplishment ![]()
Think of the acronym HALT.
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired.
I found personally hunger was a huge reason for cravings. Go buy a nice lunch. Cravings tend to vanish with a full belly. Working through a day skipping lunch to get more productivity was a recipe for stopping at the shop to buy booze on the way home for me.
I replied to your last post before ive just read and replied to this one… I think you hit the nail on the head here mate!!
Day 11 sober ![]()
My sleep improved a bit last night
Back at work today, and honestly I felt a little like a child going to school for the first time ![]()
Not because I didn’t want to be there, nor because I was particularly excited about it. My feelings were pretty neutral. I just felt ridiculously dumb when I first opened everything and tried to figure out what my priorities actually were
A few weeks of vacation clearly take their toll.
But after a while I settled in, picked up the pace, and by the end of the day everything felt pretty normal again.
I also came across an interesting thought recently about aging. Not so much aging in terms of the number on your birthday cake, but becoming “old” mentally and physically.
It was something along the lines of people aging much faster when they:
-
lose their sense of purpose or feel there is nothing meaningful to live for
-
stop taking care of their body — exercising, walking, simply moving their ass around
-
have very little meaningful social interaction
-
stop challenging their brain and spend too much time passively consuming reels, TV, movies, etc.
-
avoid uncomfortable or challenging situations where they could learn something new
I actually like this way of looking at it.
Maybe staying young has much less to do with age itself and much more to do with remaining curious, active, connected to people, having something to work towards, and occasionally doing things that make us uncomfortable.
And I guess sobriety fits into that quite well too. It certainly isn’t always comfortable, but right now it feels like one of those challenges that can actually lead somewhere worthwhile.
btw, thank you everyone for Your supportive words ![]()
Great post! I’m working back from a hefty relapse the last couple of years after nearly 2 years sober before that. I take a similar approach and I try to think of my life in terms of how much time drunk versus sober. In that mindset I can tell myself I’ve spent more time in my life sober than drunk and I want the rest of my life to be sober. Looking at it that way keeps it positive for me. It’s day one again for me and I’m glad I don’t have to fight this battle alone.
Me and my partner have just spent 3 days at a music festival where we spent in excess of 13 hours a day on our feet. Whilst we were walking to the train station from our hotel earlier, my partner remarked that the calves in her legs were feeling a bit tight so I immediately replied " You’ve found some muscles you forgot you had." I use that phrase a lot whenever people tell me of their physical aches and pains after exertion. I don’t know where I picked it up from.
You once had 2 years of sobriety. Go and find those sobriety muscles you forgot you had.
Love that! Thanks for the positivity!
I woke up this morning and was feeling so damned BLAH. I couldn’t get motivated to do anything not even go out for a little fresh air. This relentless heat and humidity makes it impossible to enjoy being outside, even in the neighborhood pool because it feels like bath water. I ate a healthy breakfast but then pulled out the potato chips in the afternoon. UGH Thankfully I caught myself before eating more than a few because we all know that junk food just makes you feel worse in the long run.
Since I personally believe in God, I give Him the credit for the voice in my head that said “just do one productive thing”. Just one. So I cleaned the half bathroom and put in a load of laundry. Then I cleaned my bathroom and vacuumed the whole house. While I was cleaning I listened to some quit lit about women and drinking. Listening to the stories of rock bottoms got me to thinking about how far I have come from my drinking days. All the work I have done to get to where I am today. 882 days ago I would have probably started drinking around 2:00 in the afternoon and sat on the couch and watched movies all day. I didn’t always start drinking that early in the day, my pattern was to start while cooking dinner. But on a day that started like this one I likely would have started early.
I am sure quitting weed 48 days ago is playing a big part of days like today where I wake up and don’t feel optimistic about the day. No one has rosy days all the time but I do wonder what my mental state will look like when I am 882 days out from weed. From what I have read, all the dreaming I am now doing is a healthy sign of my brain rebalancing since I stopped using. So I am optimistic about what it all means long term.
After my cleaning, I started to feel better so I pulled one box of my fall decorations out of the garage. I absolutely love fall and it makes me happy to see my colorful assortment of pumpkins out of storage.
Now I feel good enough to greet my husband with a nice attitude when he gets home instead of feeling like a crabby patty.
What a long and boring post. Sometimes you are the supporter and sometimes you are the whiner in the forum. Today I am a whiner ![]()
Love to all ![]()
I’m actually getting emotional reading this post. I am so extremely happy for you on reaching this pivotal milestone.
I really appreciate the brief look into history on your journey - it’s super encouraging for me, as a newbie, to see how you came from there to where you are now…
The biggest of congratulations!
And, thank you for the inspiration!
Congratulations ![]()

You have certainly earned your right to whine a bit today - you are such a constant supporter to this community.
I am sorry that you had a challenging start to the day… that can set a pretty blah tone for what’s upcoming. But, I’m happy that you heard the voice you needed to hear - and that you listened to it, and acted on it.
I’ve appreciated your commentary, over the weeks, as you’re starting the new journey of freedom from weed. I’m sure, as the months pass, things will only get better and better for you (of course, as you know, one day at a time
).
Fall is my favorite time of year. I can’t wait to get into it proper.
You hang in there. And keep rowing the boat…
Sending positive vibes in your direction! ![]()

Day 28. I return to work and my anxiety level grow up and cravings too. I am aware of it and I know I am weak. @JazzyS thanks again. I hope your little neighbors will be merciful with you and next time they play softer
@GOKU_SS4 OOH I love the Marvel series - happy Watching. Do you have a favorite hero? I do love Dare Devil the most I think… may not have been introduced to all of em tho so that may change LOL
@Leveller
Oh dear Col thank you for the shout out but this is ALL YOU! You should be proud of all the work and energy you have put into your sobriety. SO very proud of you. OMG Minnie is an absolute sight for sore eyes - Falling in love with her hard! ![]()
@CueBall8n9 Hey friend - how are you doing now? I am sorry for that sudden strong urge. You really do not need that drink. Try to think of what may be driving the thinking. I do hope you are now at the meeting and getting some in real life support. We are here - stay connected and feel free to reach out if you need to chat
Glad you ate and felt better - Grateful that you did reach out rather than act out. HUGE SUCCESS!
@Blueskies12 Welcome to the check in thread and great work on your day 3. Keep putting in the work. When our addiction causes us to make utter asses of ourselves and leaves us with deep regret and shame - well, then all we have is our word to stay sober and let our actions of recovery do the talking. Menopause is a bitch! It does not help having those symptoms when you are detoxing and trying to find yourself in recovery. It can be done and with time and patience. Just For Today You will not drink - you will focus on today and then repeat tomorrow. Keep coming back ![]()
Absolutely NOT - you do NOT deserve this. I am so sorry so much hurt and cruelty and injustice has been pushed on you. I am sorry that you feel like your problems or feelings don’t matter! They absolutely matter. Sending you hugs and love. Hoping you can feel them!
Please don’t doubt yourself or think you are overreacting - you have every right to be hurt and upset with what you are being put through. Much love to you Renee. I do hope that you had time for yourself today and were able to practice some self care

@JustCass Thanks love- So very grateful for you and that we are on this journey together. Grateful you are back on the threads. Your presence was truly missed
Love your animals and how well you are caring for them. Any pics to share?
@Promilla1987 Well done on 3 weeks! A huge shout out to not thinking of alcohol which grocery shopping - that is an awesome freeing feeling.
When you are ready to quit that nicotine - join us on the Grumpy A-holes (quitting cigarettes/ nicotine products) (Part 2) thread. Lots of great tips and support for quitting cigarettes / vaping
@Tragicfarinelli Hope you are doing well. Haven’t seen you around much ![]()
@Button83 Hey girl! So good to have you back with us and awesome to see you checking in. Keep putting in that work - ODAAT ![]()
OOH I do love that line of thinking. I do believe we need to keep moving and thinking or else our bodies and minds shut down. So to stay young you need to keep living!
@PinkFirefly Much love friend. Sorry for the day your day started but soooo grateful for how its turning out. I love how you were able to find some motivation (with thanks to Him
) and do that one task which cascaded into others. That is a wonderful positive momentum. You don’t have to be in recovery to have a bad day. Those happen. I feel like they are there to let us know how special the good ones are. This humidity and heat is absolutely draining. I woke up to 87% humidity and thought I was gonna drown in the heavy air around me. YEAH to getting out the fall decor - Love that. Happy decorating my friend. You are a WINNER! - I did not see any whining going on…. just processing your day ![]()
@Bomdhil Hey friend. You are not weak. You are dealing with the cravings as your brain is trained to go that route when you feel overwhelmed. Like when someone mentioned coming home from vacation and immediately wanted a drink. Even though they didn’t want one for the entire vacation. Our familiar surroundings play into that craving. I am sorry for the high anxiety. Know you can take a breath and take things one task at a time. Reach out for support, go to a meeting. Keep pushing forward! ![]()
Checking in on Monday afternoon
I slept like shit so it was a rough start to the day. 3-4 hours of crap sleep and then a lazy day was what I needed. I tried to lay down this afternoon but my neighbors girlfriend (Who never leaves the apartment) was stomping about. Grateful I was awake to take the call from maintenance this time. They finally came after 2 weeks. Said “oh we need to take the door and won’t be able to return for a few days” - I said yeah I know - that is what I told you would need to be done LOL. At least its picked up and now we wait for its return. Its a closet door in spare bedroom so no hurry.
I do hope to go swimming tomorrow - it has been way too long. I think tat’s are healed enough. I will go if I can manage some decent sleep.
Now finishing up work and going to chill for the evening.
Wishing everyone a wonderful addiction free day - sending you all so much love

Yea I ate lunch and was good to get through the day and then just got home from an AA meeting. We had a speaker with 17 years sobriety. He spoke my language and I am getting ready for bed. Very thankful for this community, AA, and my bed.
finishing day 18 sober!
Thank you Jasmine! The meeting was just what I needed. I am amazed how much I love going to the meetings and meeting and hearing the stories of people who have overcome alcohol. It is truly inspiring.
I hope you get some good sleep tonight and are able to make it to the pool tomorrow. You are a special lady!
Awe thank you friend. I do hope the pool is in my future ![]()
So grateful that you are going to the meetings and finding such support and connections ![]()
You and your feelings DO matter @Scorpn And you definitely don’t deserve what is happening to you, no support or understanding. For what it’s worth, you sound like a really strong person. And a really good mother. And sober through it all. ![]()
That would get on my last nerve! Some people are just so self-absorbed it’s ridiculous. Wow I remember when you were first trying to get the maintenance crew to your place. Two weeks yikes! Glad they came. Wishing and hoping for you to sleep well. ![]()
