@SassyRocks I too had Home Ec which taught cooking, sewing, embroidery, and crocheting. Since Mom taught me these things long before middle school it was an easy 5 credits every year. They need to bring this back into schools. We always had fun in this class. Since it was all girls it was like a refuge for us.
@SassyRocks
YouTube has great videos on how to do each stitch. I can help you with abbreviations in any pattern instructions. It’s really not hard to crochet. Check out Fiber Spider on YouTube. I love his videos. He goes nice and slow and repeats what he is doing to make sure everyone is with him.
You need to learn how to make a chain first, then single crochet, double crochet, triple crochet and half double crochet. Start with those and let me know if you need help.
This is a shawl I made this winter
This is a close up of the pattern I made up. I was following a pattern i found on line but i did not like the way it looked so i modified it until it looked right to me.
Thank you for all the info!! Lovely work of yours as well!!
Check out Fiber Spider on YouTube. He does crochet and knitting. He really explains in a precise and easy to follow way. I was trying to crochet from a written pattern that was not making sense. I did a search on YouTube and sure enough he had a video for that same pattern. I watched and crochet along and in no time had it all made sense!
Thank you!
I am so glad you started this thread! I crochet and knit. It is almost like meditation for me. Gives me something to focus on and stops the hamster wheel in my brain for awhile. I also like that I get something for my efforts. These are the pieces of a cardigan I am working on right now.
Wow! That is so cool. You look fantastic in it.
Thank you so much
Pretty yarn. Is that one of the cake yarns? I love those. They stripe by themselves
Yes it is! It is the new Loops and Threads Cottonie Silk from Michael’s. I love it!
I started knitting the first time I tried to quit drinking, i suddenly had a lot of free time. Its been four years since then, I’m eight months sober and creating cleaner pieces because knitting and drinking dont mix.
You’re welcome to stay, these are great hobbies. They are calming (well when you dont drop a stitch), usefull (anyone need a scarf?), and there nothing like coming home and showing off your new yarn (one day I will find a project for that super soft burgundy).
Beautiful!
I made this for mother’s day. I was having trouble with my hands. I thought it was arthritis, so I stopped crocheting. The practitioner said I don’t have arthritis. I’m doing hand exercises, hoping to get back to crocheting sometime. I’m glad to see all the great work people are doing!
I do cross stitches if that counts
Absolutely! Can we see some of your work?
