Daily Meditation Challenge

7 minutes :white_check_mark:
on a bench at the beach. Eyes open. It’s work. But worth it.

Meditated today with a little anger. Didn’t want to be still. At least I was aware of the visit of anger.
Okay, back to my normal programming now, LOL!

Hi Sassyrocks and all, this is the Taoist course I’m taking, quite pleased with it for the 10 $ or so.
Only thing is is that it all disappears after the 60 day mark, so you gotta do your homework : )

Day three. Busy busy mind! Noticing that my meditation time can easily become a planning session. Maybe I need to write a to do list!

Writing out a fresh to do list and what’s on my mind right before diving into a meditation may help, good idea @siand Going to try and get in five mins. or more now.

I’m not sure it matters that much if your mind wanders. It’s cool to notice where it goes sometimes!

I just don’t have a to do list at all and its something that popped up while I was meditating

Would be interesting to know if it makes a difference tho or if it just makes you focus on your to do list after writing it :see_no_evil:

Well I got to seven and a half mins with a tiny break right in the middle to add to my list … Lol … Foucussed again on breathing and a mantra. Really trying to continue this sitting up eyes closed quiet meditation technique, its going to take a lot of patience me thinks :relaxed:

I don’t know what you’ve done so far but one thing I learned to help concentration is to count your out breaths up to 10, pause and rest in awareness, repeat. If you lose track, notice and go back to 1. The idea is to not got to get attached to getting to 10 or pissed off when you don’t. Just a tool to help build concentration over time. Then increase to 20, 30, etc. The guy that I learned that from was a Buddhist and he said once you get to 20 three times in a row, assuming you’re not breathing really quickly, you should be able to rest in awareness (not necessarily blank mind, just non-reactively observing mind, body, sound etc) for a while after.

7 minutes :white_check_mark:
On the beach trail. Plenty of people and dogs. Eyes open. Eyes shut. Whatever it takes. It’s work but worth it. It’s not an out of body zen experience but it’s nice to just sit there breathing and being in the moment while life is going on around me.

Yes this is beautiful I can imagine the feeling. It sounds similar to what I experience during a walking meditation. Being so completely present in my body that I can feel my muscles engaging with every step, and the vibration of my steps through my body. Counting breaths and steps… I love it. Eyes usually open so I don’t trip.

To be fair, Zen is all about being in the body and in mind, just being present. Plum Village talks about this as mindfulness. And also interbeing (which is nonduality packaged in a more accessible way). Thich Nhat Hanh, who set it up, is a Zen master. Would recommend, its the bit of Buddhism I most connect with anyway. PV also big on mindful eating and walking.

I know this is a general meditation thread and not a Buddhist one, but the Buddhists know their shit on meditation :joy:

Anyway I won’t ramble on about it any more but there is a playlist with some good short videos on mindfulness and Buddhism from the Plum Village App YouTube channel if anyone does want to dig more into that side of things…

And if I’m just telling people stuff they already know, apologies!

Got this little booklet as a gift recently. Your post made me think of it. All about walking meditation.

I was having trouble sleeping last night and instead of letting my brain go off- like I usually do, I did a guided meditation. During I started crying. Don’t get me wrong I cry all the time. But never while I meditated. I feel really peaceful today. Thank you times a million @Its_me_Stella for introducing me to it. :yellow_heart::woman_in_lotus_position:t2:

I had a pretty mind blowing experience last night during my meditation. It was so insane my addict wants more… I will be chasing it tonight. I don’t know what to call it and trying to explain it wouldn’t do it justice.

Progress.

Laying down, eyes closed, shut it all out for 7 mins and change of silent meditation. Realized was almost falling asleep and its too early and not the point of trying to meditate, so sat back up.
Try again tomorrow :v:
