Hi, Fargesia. How are you today? I missed the notification of your reply until I was cleaning out my inbox. Sorry.
So to reply to your questions: 1) I am unfamiliar with acceptance and commitment therapy and I am not a licensed mental health professional. I think you can get a better answer from one of them. 2) Recovery means you are working on a daily basis a recovery program. Usually it means you have received services that have assisted you in getting well. Such as substance use disorder services. But some are using their religion or other spiritual based program (like AA, CA, etc.) for their recovery program. ASAM states in their authoritative text that the only common denominator they found among persons who remained abstinent past the 2 year milestone was participation in a 12 Step or other spiritual based program. So if you are well and you are not using this type of program and you have stayed well and off all mind altering substances (including things like Nicotine) for more than let us say ten years, you may not have a substance use disorder but some other issue such as a mental health disorder where you are treating the symptoms with mind altering substances. I have stated facts above about ASAM findings. Terrence Gorski made the same findings and he is one of the foremost experts on alcoholism and addiction and relapse prevention. You can make your own choices, it is not up to me or someone else. I am stating what the facts are in terms of longitudinal studies.
I cannot comment on your last comment because it is more argumentative than factual.
However, I almost never use it as an actual insult towards someone. Usually itās when doing manual labor as a phrase of exasperation (thanks, Dad). Figure itās him being from Ireland and having influenced my way of speaking.
I feel itās really the only curse word left with any sort of āoomphā to it. Use sparingly.
So⦠what you guys do in here? Is this like Facebook for addicts? Maybe I got the wrong perception or maybe the site is not being used as itās supposed to cause I remember reading the āaboutā partš¤·āāļø
Not so you are not happy with this sites replies so dont spit out the dummy I to was a new comer like you way before internet , i do prison visits and speak all over the world at meetings sponsoring for over 35 years now visit homeless guys on the street if thats arrogance or grandiositity in your mind .then fine just go to a meeting and work the program and im a pet lover and i come here to help guys and gals who are finding it hard getting sober
This is topicstarters perception and feeling Ray.
Prople are allowed to have those. To have doubts and insecurities. And to verify them.
This topic is about someoneās needs and reacting in a defensive way doesnāt help.
I donāt even know what to say, but your sober time, visits to prison, and running meetings as you said, donāt match the way you talking to me⦠I donāt see no emphaty or desire to help me or get to know me, I just see you once again pounding your chest talking about your accomplishmentsš¤·āāļø
I found the more I put into this site and made an effort to get to know ppl and forge connections, the more I began to get sth out of it. We are all real ppl on here, with lives and baggage. Not support automatons and empathy machines. No one is entitled to anything on here other than what the guidelines guarantee for all in terms of civility.
Become the person you want to meet.
Wish you the best on your journey.
I really like compliments beginning with āGod damn girlā. they the best. you werenāt to know. so thank you kindly!
now Iāll get flagged for being āthirstyā again lol. worth it tho.
