Foodies Unite #3 (trigger warning food) Let's TACO 'BOUT FOOD

I love charcoal.
My wife had a gas grill when i met her and i had to introduce her to charcoal… Once i did we cleaned down the gas BBQ and put it in storage. Haven’t used it since.
They are convenient, but don’t taste anything like a charcoal BBQ.
I just use cheapshit kettle BBQs and use them till they die then grab another cheapshit one. I hate how expensive and “gourmet” some BBQs have become. You don’t need to spend much to get great results.

This conversation sounds familiar…and I agree completely, but when it’s snowy and freezing out gas is still convenient (and I really dislike my glass top stove). Sometimes I just want to properly char up some tortillas, even. Some day, a gas stove is in my future!

I don’t have snow… but i can see how gas may have the upper hand in weather like that.

I love gas cooktops, and just left behind an awesome one. The new house has induction cooktop and I’m not a huge fan. Sure… It boils water super quick - like, crazy fast - but I don’t feel like I have the same level of fine control that I had with gas.

Yesterday I put the bag of Chicago mix back and got butter flavored to munch on my way home from plant shopping. So no… it doesn’t fly. :joy:

Haha, thanks. You are too kind :hugs:

The mushrooms take 10-15 mins at 200°. But I’m an impatient cook so I tend to stand and watch rather tham set a timer. Take them out when they start to go golden :+1:

Haha, at first glance I did think these were malteasers

A naan flatbread with goat cheese, green tomato and this yummy roasted garlic and onion jam. The jam is sweet for me and I had put too much, but the overall combo was great with the jalapeño in the goat cheese and the tart crisp tomato. Should have spread jam lightly first.

The same white cabbage salad from yesterday but stir fried and with an egg roti

Sometimes a good old turkey sandwich will suffice. Especially when cleaning out the fridge stuffs.

Late breakfast/brunch at a European bakery/breakfast spot. The rye bread was so tasty. It just needed real butter. I was thinking, “oh look, homemade ketchup for my home fries. Umm very sweet. Nope, this is jam.” :joy: Eyes we’re bigger than tummy after fasting for bloodwork. Couldn’t finish it but gave it a go

Same. Gas stoves are the exception here. I don’t get it.

Confession: I love canned chicken. It tastes nothing like chicken and I am not entirely sure what they do to it, but dang! I become enamored with a lot of things I wouldn’t have normally eaten while I was stationed in Japan. Fresh meat was not always readily available, but canned goods? Yepper.

No REAL butter. WTAF :grimacing:

I think it was margarine. Pretty white & flavourless spread

I tend to like tinned meats but have never tried chicken  I’d be willing to try it!

Better check your pears again  @Alisa
Not sure you saw this last time I ordered it.

Another Whisk and Whisky lunch.
PB & J Burger.
Sliced pear, jalapeño jam, creamy Brie cheese, Urfa pepper aioli. The flavours worked really well together.

Unfortunately you can’t see the ingredients because the Brie had it all pretty well glued together.

Had to google the Urfa again.
Urfa biber is a dried Turkish chili pepper of the type Capsicum annuum cultivated in the Urfa region of Turkey.
It made for a nice fry dip too.

No. This will not do.

Holy moly yum! After a long hard week, and a long afternoon in the kitchen (worth it) this really hits the spot. Chipotle meatloaf (beef, turkey and locally grown pork) with my homemade hot sauce and trimmings. Ahhhh!
Edit to say I made two and froze one for laters!!!
