Foodies Unite #4 (trigger warning food) DON'T GO BACON MY HEART!

I’ve fallen into a really bad habit of not eating breakfast when I know it makes me feel rubbish. So here we go, feel better already.

I just broke my coffee carafe this morning 🥲
But I had already poured all the coffee safely into my cup. I always rinse it out right after I pour it. 🥲 I guess I better drink coffee before I do washing up. At least I got coffee. It’s the little things. I remember you broke yours not too long ago.
:pray::heart:🥲

Joining the oats/oatmeal train. Some of you know I have CASES of instant oatmeal in my basement. It’s outdated, whatevz. Today I mixed almond & apple. Pretty good, if a little stale. :smirk:

Banana and walnut muffins
They were delicious but were a little deflated as l committed the ultimate cooking boo boo by opening the oven door too soon!! :weary:

In my defence, l haven’t baked in a VERY long time! I’m sure if l keep trying l will get better at it.

Thanks to all the cooks and bakers out there on TS! I am loving seeing what you all create and eat. So diverse! Soo delicious looking- wish we had Smellovision or better still, Tastovision!!

I’m just gonna drop this here to drum up conversation…

Before this day, I had never heard of bleached flour. You Americans bleach your flour? Does anyone here use it?

Apparently it’s banned in the EU (where I live).

It must be the bargain, bottom shelf generic brand that is the cheapest to buy, but honestly I think it’s just 50 cents more to go a step up to better quality. I honestly don’t know if you can even buy bleached flour at the store anymore, but I will look the next time I go. I doubt it is advertised as such, though. Any flour I buy always says “unbleached” on the package. I would be more curious about what flour is used in the mass produced food industry…

Good to know, thanks!

Oh no e !! My hearts breaking for you if you dont have a spare at home?!

I am SOOO careful now after the last smash. I also wash it right away after it’s made.

But I’ve still managed to tap the glass on the tap a few times when washing it. The second you hear that fatal tap of the glass , you freeze up in hesitation to look for the impending damage and waiting to see if it’s had its brew LOL

I said that I would always have a back up just Incas, but I didn’t buy one. But I think a back up is a smart idea, seeing as my favourite thing of the mornings is my making coffee ritual. I am addicted to my French press. If another earth quake happened , it would be the first thing I grab on my way out the door LOL

Actually I do have a back up metal silver one, but I don’t like it, it taste different. I’m convinced the glass makes it taste as it’s meant to… the metal or silver ones just aren’t right

Meant to add a pic.
I went with the small Chemex 6 cup. I’m the only one who drinks coffee in my house.

That’s usually what I have for a back up. But I didn’t have one here. I prefer to just push a button. I didn’t want to deal with a newfangled coffee machine from Sonoma Williams.

Ah pour over coffee. I’m yet to convert. I like it.

I’m very impressed that you have a grinder. Once you have it, you can’t go back to pre ground

Im excited to try a new (to me) flavor profile for meatless Monday! First time cooking with coconut milk and curry paste.

Well, I only do one cup a day. So it’s got to be good.
For years we did those Keurig things. But when I cut down to one cup I wanted it to be good stuff.
With my Intelligentsia Coffee I found in Venice Beach one day. I got hooked.

They also have a Guatemalan blend that I love.

And you’re right. I’ll never go back.

I don’t bake, I went to my shopping app for my local grocery store. This would be a “name brand” flour & it for sure says bleached. There were unbleached options as well. This is something I have never thought about .

I would estimate 90% of the flour on the shelf at my local market is bleached. I’ll confirm during my next trip, probably in the next hour.
