Tonights dinner is crockpot moms beef stew (added some peas so the hubby eats something green lol)
I know I bc ups be posting this in the avid readers threadā¦but I feel as though it belongs here more. Has anyone has the pleasure of reading āAn Everlasting Mealā by Tamar Adler.
It is neither cookbook nor memoir and speaks more to the joy that we can find if we are willing to open ourselves to the delight of the necessity of cooking. That so often, we are frozen by the thought that we are supposed to be as good as chefs and that recipes are meant to be followedā¦and how this takes all of the instinct, economy and grace out of the whole thing.
She doesnāt list recipes per seā¦.more she lists possible avenues to travel down when it comes to all of the foods we have at home. I read it about five years ago and loved it. It gets a LITTLE TOO poetic for me sometimesā¦butā¦itās still great.
I am so very much looking forward to (hopefully) moving into our new house in the coming weeks so I can have my own kitchen again!!! The last five months have been ROUGH on that front. I found myself saving the last few bites of chicken and smears of hummus from my takeout tonight to turn into a delightful pita tomorrow. I think me a few weeks ago would have tossed the amount I hadā¦but when I got home to my pantry, I was seeing more possibility. To me, thatās the sign of a good cookbook!
I keep hearing about this book and Iām grateful you shared! It sounds right up my alley. Iāll be ordering it to arrive when I get home so I can dive in.
I just went to add it to my to be read list and it was already there. Iāll bump it to the top.
Pizza night with the fam. This is a smaller town than where I live and they still have a better pizza place than we do back home!
Yes! I was actually thinking of you when I was thinking about posting it. I think it was your mention of ācobbling togetherā meals the other week. As a resourceful home cook you might even do a lot of this stuff already butā¦I still think the book lends some inspiration. Iād love to know how reading it goes
Iām rarely on this thread, too many delicious ideas I want to try
Today I want to share an idea a good friend put into my head and taste: ramen-style soup! Iām not capable to cook real ramen soup but I have all ingredients to make it ramen-style. So there Iāve been cooking happily the last 2 weeks
It looks scrumptious!! Nourishing and comforting! Congratulations!
Whatās the pink in the middle in the second and third bowl?
The pink in the middle is beet root, the red in the third one is smoked sweet pepper from the glass
My ācobbled togetherā (new favorite way of thinking about food since I couldnāt cook for the weekā¦Thankyou @RosaCanDo!) lunch:
Leftover half bag of salad, the ends of my dinner last night (hummus tomato and a little chicken) and a can of boneless sardines!
This was my first time venturing into the world of tinned fish (that wasnāt tuna) and it was better than I expected it to be!!
Not gonna lieā¦Iām feeling sustainable, economical and cultured AF right now
Yummmmm! Sardines are a staple in our house. So good for you, too!
Settling into a bit of routine at my folksā place with the gaggle of family here. Thereās tons of food to choose from and put together as we each prefer. I had my usual avo toast with an egg this morning and for lunch a carb balance wrap with some pulled pork, more avocado, queso fresco, salsa and veg.
Taco-ish salad with carne asada my dad prepared, pinto beans, queso fresco, avocado salsa, and raw tomato, bell peppers, and cucumber with leaf lettuce.
I am so glad my chickens are laying again! Even though itās snowing today I feel Spring approaching.
Capers with essence of egg.
Are you toying with me?
All the pickle-y things for breakfast, my friend - giardiniera, capers, pickles.
Then, of course, you come out swinging with some syrupy-looking thing!
