Gardening In Recovery

I’ve never done berries. We just have wild bushes. Think I could do them in my garden boxes shown here? Or too small? @siand

I love gardening I grow lots of fruit and veg for me and my family and friends and sometimes those in need.

Strawberries would go in one of those, they would fill one though as they send runners everywhere. Raspberries too, once they’ve established! Blackberries spread up and out so need something to trail along. Gooseberries and currants seem to be better behaved as bushes.

Although if I had your garden (gorgeous!) I would put them in with the wild bushes and let them do their thing. Although you may have to compete with the birds for the fruit :see_no_evil:

Yea I might do a pallet bed for the strawberries. To go with my planned pallet fence!

Yeah, strawberries would be fine in those. As I said, the do tend to take over, just thin out afte harvest.

That’ll look nice.

Thanks! I’ve only done the usual garden veggies in those boxes (beets, carrots, green onions, peas, beans, lettuce etc). Hubby built them for me, there’s 4. Past few years we’ve also planted a few fruit trees. Last year, I think it was a raccoon who climbed and broke part of the little tree top/branches off and stole the fruit lol. I might try the bushes … we have berries my little guy picks. I think they’re back raspberries. Thanks for the tips!

Also, I don’t even know if I’ve had a currant before! :joy: I don’t think they’re hugely popular to this region. I should try those!

have my hotel gardens to look after this year and meeting with owner to look at his other ones he has 6 been doing gardening for 50 years now so keeps this old guy active

Thanks  We lucked out getting wood free (or dirt cheap, can’t remember) from a local buy & sell site. Someone just wanted rid of them. Loads of nails but hubby took most out and threw these boxes together. Surprisingly easy. Although they’re not as deep as they look, they sure are handy and save my back! And that area gets super wet on the ground so raised boxes worked much better

I am pretty excited this year! I am co-oping at a small farm with three other families. 33 chickens (winter egg production at 14 per day), two goats, and more than enough room to garden. I haven’t had that amount of gardening space in a long time. I really don’t even know where to start! I am looking at @siand’s plan with high hopes!
