Ughh it’s a cold world out there
I don’t know what particular variety of Sage I have. It grows in a large container along with some Thyme. I started them both from seeds. They have survived outside for the past 5 or 6 years with no issues. So far this season they have been down to about 22F. In past winters they have been down to around 0F or lower. The soil freezes during winter. Sometimes I’ll dig a path through the snow to harvest some leaves during winter. It’s always happy when spring warms it up.
I think that’s Italian Sage.
Hi everyone hope your all well, im going start growing my own vegetables in my garden, expecting this first year to be trial and error but was wondering foes any one know safe ways to heat a pvc greenhouse ? If at all it can be done.
I want to get one as my garden only gets sun from approx 9am to 1pm but i am a beginner
Also any tips and advice is more than welcome.
Oh yay thanks for reviving this thread… makes me excited for spring.
Ours gets pretty hot… we have to keep the door off most days in the summer. Where do you live?
London Uk, my mum grows tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, apples, plums, chillies in her gsrden in London but she has constant sun from early am until night time.
Im super excited to start though
Yea its fun for sure.
I’m sure you would be fine with that amount of sun if it is direct on the house and kept the doors closed. That is my noob advice. ( I have no idea what I am talking about) Hahahaha
Thank you, iv ordered some decent garden tools to take back some of the big bushes and overgrown plants so the sun can reach more of the garden.
Last year i managed to grow some lettuce and potatoes, but i wasnt sober then and my heart wasnt in the right place but now it is. Also i feel it will be so good for my anxiety and depression ( luckily is not too bad atm ) along side the health benefits if anything ends up edible
That’s exciting! You’re already an experienced lettuce grower and soon you’ll have hearts of lettuce. I just mean that your heart will be in it. As you know you can grow lettuce heads. Or Use m e s c l u n seeds For a variety. I had a potager for many years. I would pack they lettuceS close together with real pretty flowers and rainbow chard behind it. I would let the letttuces grow close together and I would do the snip and cut harvest. I would snip little leaves off and then that plant could keep growing etc. I love the big variety of the lettuce leaves. I might’ve had eight different kinds of lettuce, +4 or five different colors of Swiss chard. Lactinato Kale. Arugula. Fennel. I really enjoyed eating the Swiss chard raw. I would have to use 40 leaves for a small amount to cook. When I would use the leaves for the salad I can maybe use five or six and mix it with some lettuces, it was delicious. Your mom or a local grower should know what you can do with your sunshine.
Lettuces the Swiss Chard all that can go in pots. @Twizzlers exciting!!
If you eat the big leaves of Swiss Chard, You can peel it off away from the “ rib “. Truthfully I ate more Raw lSwiss chard than I ate cooked. The ribs would be tough to eat raw on the larger leaves. I would chop them and stirfry them. It was delicious. Can’t wait to see your garden how exciting
And the season starts …
Chilli, eggplant, artichoke, tomatoes of which I’m surprised the really old seeds still sprout (I gave it a try, if not there would have been no harm done, plenty of time to rebuy), some herbs
Spring officially is in the air here
Anybody else in here love garden journaling/sketching and have big plans for this years garden? I would love to see what everybody else has planned! I started my planning this week and I’ll share it with y’all when it’s finished.
Got the last of the seeds I ordered for this year in today’s post
Yes! I have only done a little in the past, mostly notes in a journal, but plan to draw things up a bit better this year. I want to grow pole beans, too! Exciting!
I was thinking about changing the name of this thread to be more general, something like “Recovery Gardens” or Gardening in Recovery.” The OP hasn’t been around for some time. Any thoughts?
No thoughts from me. I’ll be here over sharing my garden regardless of what it’s named. This is my favorite thread around here.
I love it too Thanks for your post, it hadn’t really crossed my mind to start planning, I always wait till the last minute, and I’ve got time now!
Cool i love to see what people grow, especially vegetable gardens. I work full time on a market garden. As side project this season i will grow some little cucumbers for pickles, celeriac and some other stuff that we don’t grow to sell. I can post some pics once in a while
