Hooray I found this group! I’ve been a semi-professional gardener for about 10 years. I have been mostly gardening for clients and for my parents. My partner and I finally own our first home and gardening was one of my considerations while shopping for a house!

The previous homeowners who lived here for 25 years were obviously into gardening at some point but let everything kind of go to shit. So I am continuing my crusade against orange daylilies, myrtle, bittercress and other invasives. At the same time I love native plants and I’m kind of doing it randomly - I really should come up with a plan, especially for the front beds, before all the native plant nurseries open up! I have a difficult time thinking in 4 dimensions so bloom time is going to get more attention this year

The front yard is more formal beds, so I’m working on a display garden - mostly natives but a couple of fun things for myself.

The backyard is large and partial to full shade. I picked an area beneath the spruce trees to start smothering the myrtle, and planting some individual natives to see how they do. So far the wild ginger has come back strongly, also wood poppies, Xmas fern, goldenrods.

We also planted some fruit trees in other areas - 2 plum and 2 hazelnut.

I love getting to experiment!

large pots 3/4 small ones 2 , trying the canvas ones on my main crop they make it easier to harvest tatties , my lats house 1/4 acre so plenty of room just adjusting to space in this garden . putting in worm castings with volcanic rock dust this year see if it improves my veg harvest

I’m honestly proud of myself for how much I have improved our front garden beds in just under a year since we bought the house. I’ve been gardening as a side hustle off and on for maybe 10 years now, and this is my first garden that I own and it makes me so happy!!

I have killed about 90% of the invasive daylilies, which I didn’t know anything about when I started. Filling in those gaps with native plants and a couple ornamentals i really like.

Can’t get the photo option to post before and after, I’ll figure it out.

I need a gardner. My garden is so overwhelming over here. It’s beautiful but I don’t know where to begin. And it hurts my back just thinking about it. My landscape guys work real hard to keep it in check. But they don’t give it that loving touch.

Having fun in this gorgeous Dallas weather this weekend. Admiring all the parks and Arboretum here. Great time of year to be here. Well. These 4 days.

Well if any of your adventures take you up the left coast I’d be honored. We could hit up a meeting in the sand with the dolphins :dolphin:

Love your tulips btw.
I don’t have any tulips. I love visiting your part of the world this time of year. But I do have roses. All kinds.
