I agree. I always think that too. I wish I could write a great piece of music.

I’m excited, I got a pair of bluetooth karoke microphones that work with the Singing Machine app, so hopefully I can get that set up and get some songs recorded to show you all! I’m just not sure what songs I want to record lol!

The ones you have the most fun doing!

Hmm, that would be a lot lol. Any requests lol?

Hmmmm… you may have to ask someone else. My taste is rather… unique, and I have pretty poor familiarity with songs I’m told are popular. Basically I’ve musically lived under a rock, but explored MANY secret caves while there and developed an unusual palate. Not a karaoke friendly library up in this noggin :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, it doesn’t have to be a recent one either. I love singing oldies, especially rock and such lol. But I get the unusual taste lol. You already know about my love obsession of Broadway :joy:

Old is even harder! :flushed: One day I should post a sample playlist – I guess none of it is really that weird, you’re just not likely to come across it without looking, or without a fair amount of blind experimentation.

You should pick something from Broadway!

I love hearing new music, so you should definitely post a playlist lol. And I will definitely do a Broadway song for sure!

I’ve been looking at amps on eBay. At the moment I’m borrowing my bro’s but I could do with my own

Question for the musicians…

So, I’m not particularly fond of my voice but intent on improving it. Obviously this involves a lot of practice more than anything else, and learning previous instruments has confirmed that in my life. But I’ve been finding that during lessons and the types of practice recommended during the lessons, I lose the connection to the “art” side of music in my attempts to improve technique. Consequently my motivation to continue gets completely sapped, and there’s no way I can put in the work I need to when I feel terrible doing it. Today is also the day I use the last of my gift card for lesson #4, and I need to make a decision.

My question I think applies to any instrument, and is this: Am I doing myself a disservice by quitting more formal methods of instruction pretty early on, at the risk of entrenching and developing bad habits? Or is it more of a disservice to myself to continue, suffocate my enjoyment of it now, in hopes that the instruction will allow me to express better later on?

You know ‘how to learn’ and instrument therefore its what works best for you. If you were learning your first instrument, i’d say you’d be doing yourself a disservice but you already know how you learn best so use the method that suits you best. Bad habits will fizzle out if you find you have them work on them but again, its just you learning your own way. I was told for years that i should keep my guitar straight and look over it when I play it but i find i play it best with it leaning slightly back. Its really up to you

Thanks for the input, it gave me good things to think about.

I think going forward I’m going to keep with the lessons just because the trained objective ear is still catching a lot of stuff I don’t, but for now I have to take a break for financial reasons. And I need to see the lessons and homework as a tool, not a magic voice treatment, going forward. Just using my voice at all with a critical ear is seeming to still be the heaviest-hitting tool in my arsenal for now.

We had kind of a funny moment today. He suggested a song to me that he thought fit my voice, and he certainly could be right, but I told him (a) I’d have to warm up to country a bit more and have zero interest in the twang aspect, and (b) it’s a drinking song and I’m a recovering alcoholic. He was really good about it, and it was no big deal and we just moved on, so that was good. Honestly lyrics like that don’t bother me, but I figured, why bother with it when it doesn’t interest me. I want something more meaningful, because why do I go after music if not to express something meaningful?

Also, I think it’s safe to say anxiety is a thing. My lesson was two hours ago and my hands still won’t stop shaking like withdrawals all over again. I’m still a very reluctant hermit crab, I don’t like coming out of my shell.
