Coffee is liquid gold! ![]()
Just sat down with my cup and feeling proud to have made it through day 10. Have a peaceful day🙂
@Scorpn , here’s my new espresso set up.
I’m tamping down waiting for it to preheat, but still the coffee is a bit weaker than I/we like it.
I’m using Starbucks Blonde, but I’ve ordered 'Devils Roast 100% Robusta.
Any other ideas, seeing your the adult
, sorry Professional Barista here

@Scorpn, @BLOODSHOTJOKER, @SoberGuyUSA, Matt, @BobT and the rest.
We’ve really got to get this thread going properly again or all move over to the the Coffee Shop thread?
But I really, really, really, really, really like this thread it’s got a fantastic family atmosphere
.
I haven’t been very active this year as it’s been a shit show since last September 25th when my father shuffled off to hell, may he burn for eternity.

i share the same sentiments of my own father haha. Thanks for the laugh
Ok now down to getting this thread going ahem
Today I have had a Tim Hortons coffee with sugar free vanilla, almond milk, and one splenda.
Out and about early on a Saturday for one of the kids DRIVING LESSONS !! I am getting old!
Cant wait to get home and make some espresso! I barely slept last night
and now im very sleepy.
How is your coffee snobbery going today @Lezourez ![]()
Been and done the driving lesson shit twice, a while back.
No snobbery yet I’m waiting on a delivery of ‘Devils Own Brew’ 100‰ Robusta.
So I’ll have a cup or two before bed to help me sleep.
Coffee wakes me up big time but it doesn’t stop me sleeping.
I think without it I’d be comatose most of the time ![]()

I think this is a great idea. Is there a way to create a group? (or join one if it already exists?)
This group was created by @SoberGuyUSA and originally asked was he a coffee snob for liking starbucks coffee. And a few of us joined in and showed our “snob” coffee’s. ![]()
I worked at Starbucks for years and assured him he wasnt a snob for black coffee but somewhere along the line the “coffee snobs” was taken out of the title and this thread sort of went quiet.
But yes i do think i am a bit of a coffee snob sometimes. ![]()
And youre welcome to join the coffee snobs on ts if youd like ![]()
(As long as you know being called a snob in this instance is only lighthearted and for fun, and not meant to be an insult
)
I use to be a wine snob. But now I guess I’m a coffee snob. But I do respect everyone’s choice of brew. Even if I’m in a long line at Starbucks just wanting a black coffee and everyone else is ordering a venti pumpkin spice latte with eight shots of espresso, seven pumps of pumpkin sauce, and one pump of maple pecan sauce. NOT ![]()
Yes indeed. When I purchased my coffee grinder, my wife asked the sales person “what’s the difference between a coffee grinder and a coffee mill?”, to which the gentleman replied "its the difference between a coffee drinker and a coffee snob!. To which I replied “excuse me, you ignorant young man, but a mill burns the coffee by mutilating it multiple times, whereas a grinder does not!”
Whan I was working, I had a colleague who was into statistics and in particular something called “Design of Experiments”, in which you identify all key variables (quality of water, type of bean, grinding method, brewing method .. etc). I was surprised to find that quality of water was as important as the type of bean.
I’m always looking for suggestions! I prefer darker roast and the Melita pour over method. Of course, I also have a french press, an italian whatever you call that thing with the screw on top ..

Moka Pot.
Love mine. I’m new to it.
Yes I also heard about a year or so ago about how important the water can be in making coffee. I never use tap. And I use a burr grinder for my beans.
I also heard the fresher the bean. Or the fresher the roast makes a big difference too. I try to buy local but it does get expensive.
What is the grind to? And how long are your shots taking to pull? For a double espresso about 25-30 seconds
If its pulling faster the grind is too coarse and if its taking too long its too fine.
![]()
Sorry i only just saw this post. I missed it earlier ![]()
I have no idea what grind it is but it’s, going by what you said, it’s probably too coarse.
I’ll blast in the grinder and see if that helps.
But knowing me I’ll grind it to fine. I’ll be buying a grain size measurer before you know it ![]()
&![]()
If you are using starbucks beans you can take it to any location and they can grind the beans to “espresso” for free. Even if you bought the beans from the grocery store or got them as a gift ![]()
If I’m not buying beans from my local coffee shop I go to Amazon.
I’ve enjoyed this one for a while and then they ran out. I guess that’s a good thing. They have it again.
But I just opened up this one. Also found on Amazon.
I usually just google Italian Arabica coffee beans. That’s what I saw them using in Italy last spring. And dang there coffee was excellent!!
@Lezourez
@bluekoolaid_88
Thanks Eric! I always forget about Amazon even though I have prime. Like I forget about Amazon as far as food / coffee and stuff like that. I usually use Amazon for vinyl records or movies or Stuff like that but I never thought about getting coffee on there. Once I finish my gevalia Coffee I will try to find some thing random or from somewhere cool.. Maybe that rainforest coffee. In the past When I stayed at places that had Keurig machines all I would drink is Starbucks pike place, café Bustillo, and for a while I was drinking Deathwish but it’s way too strong. The Deathwish coffee is way too strong and I could only drink A half a cup at a time. Or if I drank the whole cup I had to make sure I had something to do for a few hours
As far as Amazon I really like it for convenience and they pretty much have everything but it’s really dangerous because I’m sure like you I have my card information saved on there so it’s just one click and it’s ordered. Lately if I want some thing I wait a couple days and if I forget about it then obviously I don’t need it
I’ve only got half a bag of pre-ground left so I’ll give it a quick wizz in the grider and see where we’re at.
It’s no loss as the Devils Brew has been has delivered.
But, to add Heresy to my long list of other crimes, I don’t feel like or look like a coffee right now.
A truly earth shattering event never happened before
.
I always want a coffee whatever the time

Good morning coffee driners. It’s 2:30 am and I’m partway through pot 1, pausing a particularly tense moment in 24 to say hi!
I have a truly sacrilegious question..please don’t ban me. In case of true emergency, does anyone resort to instant? I choke even asking.
One of the perks of induction cooking: my morning coffee gets made with lightning speed. The Illy coffee is nice but overpriced IMO. I only get it when it’s in promotion at my local grocery, as it was half price the other day.
@BobT Just don’t consider it coffee and it’s fine. Just like the stuff that comes from a machine at my workplace. It’s something warm and dark and holds cafeine. But it’s not coffee.
@Scorpn first cup of Devils Roast.
In my second favourite mug, (the favourites go up to around 30ish
You were 100% right, the ground was too course, so I’ve ground the last 1/2 bag of blonde to match the DR and I’ll see how that goes, as the ground of the DR is perfect.
The DR certainly made my eye lids flicker always a sign great coffee for me.
You can get it on Amazon here @£11.99 for 500g (17.10oz) and is well worth a try.
