Day 10 and 12 done, finally! For day 11, I had a massage, which is just about the least active form of recovery there is. But, oh so worth it!
Two workouts, two quotes. Both by New Englanders!
One luminary clock against the sky
Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night. Robert Frost, Acquainted with the Night
We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aid, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn. Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Day 13 done. Day 14 plan is for a ride on my trainer this evening.
Chain me with roaring bears;
Or shut me nightly in a charnel-house,
O’er-covered quite with dead men’s rattling bones,
With reeky shanks and yellow chapless skulls;
Or bid me go into a new-made grave,
And hide me with a dead man in his shroud;
Things that, to hear them told, have made me tremble;
And I will do it without Fear or Doubt,
To live an unstain’d Wife of my sweet Love. William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
Day 15 my strength workout for today already had scheduled 4x10 of elevated trx pushups so we’re counting those as the challenge pushups my arms can’t do more than that today
I now urge friends and acquaintances to have conversations with their aging parents and within their families while their parents are still relatively healthy and of sound mind. Lisa J. Shultz, A Chance to Say Goodbye: Reflections on Losing a Parent
Have those conversations before the time of stress arrives. And prepare yourself for the reality that many people retreat toward infancy as their physical strength and mental capacity diminish with age and disease. Fucking hard blows to my heart lately, dealing with my father’s loss of his home to Hurricane Ian and his childish insistence that things return to the way they used to be. I am so grateful I have five brothers to share this responsibility, and a good sobriety program to keep me from taking it personally.
I always forget just how many hits I’ve landed on my poor mangled elbows when I’ve crashed my bikes…until I go to do tricep dips. Today onwards I’m swapping out for weighted or banded overhead tricep press.
Day 17 - did a run then a virtual and we did plenty of sit-ups, squats and push-ups off to eat food and then work in a few hours for the stupid evening shift my workplace is forcing on me
