Sex & Porn Addiction Recovery

Ha ha.thanks.umm…tricks!!!well,i can share a simple one…you can watch nofap movement related videos from youtube regularly…when i feel urge, perticularly when i was in my early recovery stage(i am not implying, I am now fully recovered…ha ha), i watched videos to stop my urge…it worked for me…

Interesting. Next time I have a struggle I will have to consider that haha

Today, I’m starting my 6th attempt in 5 months. Feels like it’s never gonna happen. Need help… Can someone pair with me? Be my buddy through this almost impossible journey? I’m weak and I loathe myself.

Thanks for your reply. Honestly, I don’t need some videos telling me how porn is gonna mess up my brain or how it functions or why it is that way or etc…
They are stating the obvious to me! I know all of that. I know how bad it is. That’s the very reason I’m here. So suggesting videos is not helping.

Hey Charles,

Sorry youre struggling. I’m a recovering porn addict, currently 179 days clean from acting out.

It sounds like you’re interested in having an accountability/recovery partner. I can’t help you there but I am in here every day. Maybe start a thread. Tell us your story. Let us know what program you’ve been working to stay clean.
Maybe, as you get comfortable and you demonstrate your commitment to recovery that accountability partner might materialize. Sometimes it takes a while for a bond like that to form. I know I’m hesitant about putting my effort in with somone who I haven’t built trust with yet. I wanna be sure they’re willing to do whatever it takes to get clean. Truth is, there is a lot of people that won’t and I’m not going to get invested if I don’t see that commitment.

The most helpful piece of literature that I found in my journey was Breaking the Cycle by George Collins. Also, therapy and Talking Sober has been instrumental in my recovery.

Have you considered attending SA or SLAA meetings? I don’t have them nearby, the closest meeting is 2.5 hrs away but I would certainly be going if I did have them nearby. It helps to build your sober network which it seems you’re searching for. There’s also pornaddictsanonymous.org if you’re interested in working the 12 steps online. They also have call in meetings regularly. You just have to create a profile and then get involved.

Try to not look at it as an “attempt”. Thats negative talk.

“Suggesting videos is not helpful”

Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out then. What do you need help with?

Hey, thanks for your honest opinion. I guess I’m still not that comfortable to share more, let alone coming out and starting a new thread all about me. I’m a “grown” man with family. I’m embarrassed and ashamed.
Thanks for your suggestions. I just registered with that anonymous paa site. Let’s see how that goes.

I’m sorry you didn’t get my point. You’re right… I’ve got it all figured out

When I first started out, I didn’t know what was helpful. I didn’t want to take anyone’s suggestions because I already knew everything. So I kept doing it my way, and kept failing. But I was quite aware of the problem and everything it entailed. People would suggest things that might help but I passed it off as trivial. “Give me the real answers, the magic fix, the one I believe will actually work for me” I thought.

In this journey, people can only share their experience, strength and hope. They share what works for them in hopes it may work for others.
It took me hitting the very bottom before I started believing that my way doesn’t work anymore. That I don’t already know everything. Then I started doing what other people suggested, I got honest with myself and gained humility so that I may learn from others.

When someone offers what works to keep them sober, they ARE being helpful. You may not be ready for that help yet, but that’s okay.

So what is it that you need that is going to work for you this time?

I don’t say Sober34 is NOT being helpful. I actually highly appreciate the response of my first responders! I’m just saying I don’t think watching videos on consequences of porn addiction is what I want or what can help me now.

Very well then. I hope you find what you are looking for. Just curious, have you ever seen the videos he was talking about?

Yes, I have.

Personally, i would have started off with saying that youd seen those videos.

I also think that understanding the addictive pattern and physiology is important. It humanizes the addiction, makes it mortal.

If i had all the answers, i wouldn’t be an addict

Hey you all! I just finished Day 6

It was a bit difficult. I keep wishing to go back. :frowning: I guess I am missing the feelings and the excitement (both are fake, of course) and can’t get my mind off of those things.

I am currently digging through the forum looking for advice, but I figured I might as well post in the meantime. Thank you, in advance, for any and all advice you offer.

After a bit of reading, I think I am lacking my basics. I had a busy week at work, and now I have stayed up too late relaxing and am becoming tired. I think I am going to go to bed, and see how I feel in the morning. And I am going to stay positive and determined to get though everything. See you tomorrow morning

Self care. Remember HALT. Tiredness can lead to using.

Whats the old saying? The spirit goes to sleep after a certain time?

Morning!

@anon12657779 Yes, I forgot about that acronym. Very useful, though, and I plan to remember it though today.

@DungeonMaster I heard it was midnight  But I believe it’s anytime past your normal time, haha. Thanks for that advice, as well. I plan not to stay up too late tonight.

I am feeling a bit better today; staying away from the temptations and getting some sleep made a large difference. Thank you for the advice
