It’s a manzanita
Very interesting! I thought the red stuff is some slime mould, but it’s actually the bark. Really cool! Thanks for the pictures!
They are such interesting trees/bushes. Most of the varieties on the property are much more bush like (smaller with less of a trunk and more branches) this one doesn’t have any leaves left but the way the dead bark and the new red bark are all intertwined is so magical.
Isn’t it rad. There are a bunch of varieties, and they are almost completely edible/medicinal. From root to leaf. The bark makes a super interesting tea, the spring berries are delicious and they can even be trained (like a bonsai) to grow certain ways. Super cool!
This picture was taken in my area (not by me) but i saw it on the nature fb page for my area and im in awe by it!!! Wish i saw it personally. Apparently it happened at 4am and they are called Light Pillars.
Hmmm I don’t think it’s related but honestly not sure. Either way I love it.
Had a walk at river Rhine to calm my racing thoughts
Meanwhile my collegue with the sick kids assured me to be at the office tomorrow, so yeah
Were those tortoises mating? It is supposed to be an unforgettable sound to hear.
My parents heard them mating on a zoo trip with the grandkids and said it was a sound you can’t forget. The kids got an education that day.
This picture was sent to me this morning from my friend, he lives about 45 minutes from me. We only have about 6 to 8 inches at my house.
