Hi gang, I wanted to throw out a question for yall.
Does anyone have any experience/info on those products that are supposed to help with quitting smoking/vaping? I’m thinking of Fume, MONQ, etc. Something to help with that oral fixation and hand-to-mouth habit. I’m hesitant to try them because i don’t know anyone else who has tried and had luck.
For context, I’m quitting weed, so the traditional nicotine quitting products aren’t really applicable to me.
Any feedback is appreciated!! I’m 5 days Clean from weed (over a month from alcohol!!) and the cravings are starting to really kick my ass.
It might be helpful for you to get more support for what you want if you edit your subject up there to say for ‘quitting smoking weed’
There’s lots of people on here who are quitting smoking weed.
There’s also lots of people who are quitting smoking cigarettes.
There’s a thread that I will get the link for you that would have many behavioral adjustments you can do to help you with quitting smoking, the hand to mouth behavior…
hopefully, you’ll find something in there that will help you.
Funny how there are products available that are just as harmful to our bodies to help us quit something that is harmful out bodies. What is the point of getting addicted to another thing? Why not try a toothpick, or some regular gum for an oral fixation? What about journalling or learning the guitar or knitting?? Soooo many healthier options!!
I’m sure this wasn’t your intention, but this comment came across to me as pretty discouraging… I wanted to ask around to see if anyone had experience with these products I’ve seen floating around, and if anyone has found them helpful or not.
I know there are lots of “healthier” options. I do in fact journal, and paint, and embroider, and practice yoga, etc. etc. Yet i still am struggling with quitting weed, so I’m reaching out to see if there are any other tools or tricks that have helped other people, and that may help me on my sobriety journey.
Again, I’m sure this wasn’t your intention (it’s hard to read tone or body language over text), but I felt like this was a less-than-helpful response that came across as somewhat judgemental, or an all-or-nothing mentality. Thank you for voicing your opinion. I’m trying here, and it’s hard. All i can do is try.
I’ve seen Fum advertise quite aggressively by youtubers but based on the reviews it seems to be a really expensive glorified plastic straw. Monq and other ‘healthy’ vaping companies seem to be missing the point. Directly inhaling essential oils is as bad for you, if not worse, as vaping, but a lot more expensive. I don’t know how these companies are allowed to brand themselves as wellness devices. Directly inhaling any chemicals is bad. Essential oils can be really dangerous when not properly diluted. Monq claim that you’re not supposed to inhale their product into your lungs, but as a smoker/vaper inhaling into the lungs is basically a reflex at this point.
At best, these products are extremely expensive for what they are. At worst, they could land you in the hospital.
For the same effect as Fum, you could just carry around an old, drained, vape pen. You’ll still get a hint of flavour, no vape, at virtually no extra cost.
It’s my intention to help someone see another perspective and it’s definitely my intention to discourage the use of unhealthy habits. Why pick up a vape instead of weed? So you can become addicted to the vape instead? It makes no sense to me. Just like when people use nicotine patches to help quit nicotine, it’s counterproductive. Vapes are bad news and incredibly unhealthy so I would never recommend picking up that habit instead of using a plant that is mainly used as medicine.
I’m hoping others also discourage picking up another addiction and suggest using healthier options, as there are many.
I’ve been struggling a lot with quitting weed. Now I’ve been 8 days without it, but it’s been easier because I’m at the psych ward. But after I’m returning home on Friday, I have to face my weed demons face-to-face. Last summer I was 73 days without weed and my record has been 5 years, so I know I can do it. Oddly enough, quitting alcohol is easier (37 days AF), but weed is a real monster for me. I don’t use any products, I just use my sobriety tools. I wish you all the best for your journey!
This is the real one. With booze too, I had to find new ways to live without. A program really helped reprogram my thoughts, feelings and habits in the best way.
To be fair though, I’ve noticed I now drink probably just as much sparkling water as I used to do booze. Not at all a problem of course, but I admit it may be a bit of a replacement that’s as much a tic as my old habit.
@amy30 THANK YOU, this is exactly the kind of information i was looking for! I really appreciate your comment. I will steer clear of these.
@MrMoustache Sending us both strength to get through this. Thank you for commenting. “Using sobriety tools” definitely seems like the way to go. 5 years feels unattainable to me right now, but i want to at least try. Super proud of you and hoping i can learn from your example!
Thank you everyone for your information and encouragement. This is really what i needed to hear. I appreciate it!
Smoking any plant can cause cancer because of the chemicals produced by the inhaling fumes.
There are 0 medical benefits to getting high. THC is a mind-altering narcotic. Nothing more. Nothing less. It has also been linked with causing psychosis and other mental health issues. It is not medicine. It’s a drug.
Yes, the CBT might help with pain relief and other issues, but you can buy that separately. Yes, weed might help people with cancer cope with their pain, but so does morphine. You don’t see any opiods addicts defend their drug because it also has medicinal uses in some very specific cases.
I really don’t want to sound harsh, but that’s objectively not true. Vapes are not healthy. No one is saying they are.
But weed can and does cause serious harm and addiction. It’s bad for you. It’s mind altering. For me, it was the cause of massive panic attacks. It’s not harmless and this ‘weed is medicine’ narrative promoted by stoners is incredibly harmful and shouldn’t be on an abstinence forum.
Thank you for your comment. I’m understanding now how my comment came across.
All I wanted to offer was the fact that vapes are bad news and it would be counterproductive to pick up another addiction when there are so many alternatives.
