It’s been a struggle to find the motivation to quit smoking cigarettes, l’ve been in recovery for a while (over 20 years) but cigarettes wasn’t counted against my clean time so I always approached quitting half heartedly. I have been trying to quit for the past five years but haven’t been able to make my attempts stick. I know that it’s a process that’s not going to happen over night but also understand that non of the tools in recovery is going to work without the first part of the process - abstinence!! Which is a process within itself - taking it one second at a time, seconds turn to minutes… minutes turn to hours… hours turn to days and so on - THE KEY IS NOT TO USE, NO MATTER WHAT !! That being said let me reset this timer and get through my first 24. Much Love and Respect Recovering Community

Good luck with that.
This is what helped me quit.
I’ve posted it before. It’s been awhile.
We got a thread for that too. Appropriately named
I wish you well.
Nicotine patches ans gum are just another form of the same drug. They don’t help, they just perpetuate the addiction. It only takes 3 days for nicotine to completely leave the body so it’s best to just abstain.
Allan Carr’s book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking is an excellent resource. Really wanting to quit is the first step to success so you are half way there already.
Sorry but it doesn’t lower your nicotine levels, it gives you nicotine in another form. Hence, my original message sharing that it only takes 3 days for nicotine to leave the body. If you just abstain from smoking for 3 days then all the nicotine is gone and when you use patches and gum you are just continuing the cycle, making it take much longer than it needs to.
I’m just gonna leave this here. It does actually lower nicotine consumption.
The idea that patches and gum are just as bad as smoking is preposterous and dangerous. It could simply give smokers the justification they need to continue.
