I was a runner for years and had to quit running about 2 1/2 years ago sadly. I think it’s one reason I started drinking so heavily. I lost my inner therapy time. I miss it so Much.
Good on you for your goals! I’ll live vicariously through you haha!!
What made you stop running all together? Was it an injury you couldn’t come back from? Did you change to biking or walking to replace running?
I am so scared for the day running isn’t feasible for me. It is a really sacred time for me and my mental health.
I dragged my hobbled leg through the Half today. I was pleasantly surprised by the time. I gotta say, that might be my most favorite Half ever. Stillwater, MN if anyone is intersted. Gently rolling hills and then a big 2 mile downhill finish on the bridge across the St. Croix river (they bussed us to the start in WI). Plus, lots of shade along the way. A great day.
I started running in July with distance 2,6km, slowly increasing, now I’m at around 4,5. My plan is to make 5 next time (tonight evening, if it won’t rain) and then I’m gonna join this thread, if I may
I would love to make some half marathon next year, or at least 10km from time to time (I mean official run, with number and medal etc ).
10km will be doable I think, about half marathon I have doubts.
Hamstring injury update: I’ve just rested for a week and started doing strength/rehabilitation exercises as well as strapping my thigh up to get back in the game!
Feeling a bit better. Hopefully in another week or so I’ll be able to run slowly.
As you do more, more becomes possible and desirable I’ve found. I’ve one eye on doing 100km continuous now (62 miles ish). It’s addictive, pushing myself. But better than being addicted to other things.
I started playing Pickleball! I love it, but it’s definitely not the same since it’s so social. The social and physical aspects are great but I miss my quiet “therapy “ time. Now I also do yoga and meditation which are both great!
I had to quit running for health reasons. I would like to see if I can get my health back and start running again in the fall, we’ll see.
I used to use MapMyRun. When I was teaching, the kids talked me into Strava. They are pretty much the same thing. I’ve stayed on Stava so I can stay in touch with the kids from school.
I use a Garmin watch and I do all my runs and walks and hikes on a treadmill so that helps me keep track as well. Sometimes the watch isnt AS accurate tracking my runs indoors on a treadmill so I do jot down my distance from the treadmill.
