New running shoes came in!!! Excited to try them out Sunday. I’ve been on rest almost all week cause I wasn’t feeling well
I did what I call my “long” run today. I jog continuously for 45 minutes and see how far I can go. Today I went 4.25 miles. I dont push pace too much for me but a wee bit.
This past Monday I did my 30 minute run which I do push the pace a little more for me. I was able to go 2.92 miles. My goal is to eventually get my 5k time back in that 30-31 minute time frame. Its taking me a bit of time to get it there, but as we all know its all about the journey not the destination, as once I get “there” Im just going to just keep chugging along and keep on making new goals to keep achieving! On Wednesday I did a 30 min HIIT workout I hit speeds of 8.5mph for some of the short bursts of time and recovery at 4mph. So Im just trying to change it up. I have the Peloton app and it has SO much great content. On Tue and Thu I do power walks and hikes (on the tread) too some with serious incline. Its been fun!
I forgot to add about these 45 min runs I do. I have a Garmin fitness watch which Ive been wearing religiously for over 5 years now. What they call “recovery advisor” is how many hours I ahould wait until doing another acrivity at that sort of intensity. Today like any other day I do my 45 min run I got a recommended 72 hours for recovery. Part of the reaaon I tend to do the long run on Fridays is I typically take thr weekend off from the gym but I do hit the Disney parks so Im getting anywhere between 15k-25k steps on those days usually. So really the weekend isnt a rest weekend at all but maybe just a fun one full of staying moving!
Theres this other thing called training effect…its another Garmin thing and it a scale of 1-5. 1 being minor benefit and basically 5 being extreme or as they say over reaching. The 4 zone is highly improving, the 3 zone is improving and the 2 zone is maintaining ans 0 is no benefit (but I never agree with this because even if you go for a stroll you’re srill moving your body which to me is good!) ones own current level.
Just thought Id share further insight.
What do you mean, you go to Disney every weekend?
Another half for me tomorrow. This is the 4th in 3 months, so I’m on schedule for my doing-one-a-month-for-a-year goal.
Time for some sleep, I hope this hotel stays quiet
Nothing better! I see a sub 30 min 5k in your future!
Omg I just started running in January. I run with my church group every Saturday. We are now running a marathon. I am only doing the half. I’m super nervous. What’s a good half marathon time? One where you aren’t killing yourself but you are feeling accomplished at the end? I don’t know what to expect but I’m up to 6 mile runs without issue. Loving this journey.
Hey there! Yes, we typically do! Lol! Our 2nd eldest daughter is in the Disney College Program and on a good day with notmal traffic we are abour 40 minutes drive to one of the parks in central FL! Tomorrow we are meeting her there for a fun filled day!
I haven’t done a marathon yet but I think any time I would feel accomplished with. My first in person half I did in 2 hour 45 so that a bit over 12:30 per mile and I felt very happy with my time. My next half is next month and I am looking to beat my time. I’ll probably still have around a 12 min per mile pace. Honestly, after the first one I was SOOOO happy and felt like I was on top of the world, the time didn’t matter much (for me) I was just proud to have done the distance.
Gordon can do his half’s in less than 2 hours so it just depends on the person
Have fun at your half today!!
5k Sunday!!! I was so excited to be running I set off WAY to fast and was gassed out quick. Still a good run and I’m soaking up my running endorphins
Since this is my first time I too am going for completion. Having a time to look out for will help me with motivation. I was thinking 2.5hrs was good to aim for. Thanks for your insight. Best of luck on your next half .
That was a good run
I signed in 3 short runs later this year (5k, 5.3k, 6k), first will be in September. I never run official one before so I’m excited about it. Next year planning to make some 10k and my dream is to finish half marathon
Great run!! Enjoy your endorphins! I think you have a good timeline on your races. Increasing distance gradually is a good plan. You will be running half marathons in no time!
@MrsOdh mentioned beetroot ice-creams in other thread and it remind me of beetroot juice I was drinking some years ago before running. I don’t know if it was placebo effect or not, but it was really giving me some extra endurance. I must do it again, working or not - beetroot juice is healthy and if you don’t like that taste, adding some apple making it super yummy
Anybody tried it? Some thoughts?
Lucky you @DMW living at Disney’s if everything works out well I’ll be going on a journey to Central Florida in November again. Not for the parks but just to relax in the warmth.
Btw I wouldn’t call myself a runner but I discovered the beauty of going for long walks and jog a bit as well.
Downloaded the ’ The Conqueror ’ app and find it so much fun going for long virtual walks. Last walking adventure was the Golden Triangle in India 476 mi took me 132 days because I was really lazy.
Just started the North Coast 500 last week and doing good so far. Goal is 12.000 to 15.000 steps a day.
Thank you TS family you really are amazing and inspiring!
Hi!! And thank you, hubby and I have been enjoying it so very much. We originally from MI but moved here last Dec.
That app sounds amazing cool! I too aim for about 15k a day. I cant imagine not moving as much as I do now!
I haven’t tried it. I’m still playing around with pre-run fuel. Last week I did a bottle of water with some electrolytes and I swear it helped me go further before hitting a wall
