I love the head space that comes with it. Not one for running in a group or chatting with people. I like the alone time it gives me.
I remember nearly blowing up when I started out trying to cover 3km on a treadmill but I stuck with it and although it’s not easy you just keep building it up and it comes good.
Good luck on Saturday. Let me know how it goes.
I love a good half. I’m setting 1:55 at a big half marathon in a few weeks time. I’m going to enjoy that day out. My wife and kids usually come to that one with me.
The buzz of the finish is great but what I often look back on is the part where you just have to grind away when you’re already feeling beat. Sounds wrong but for me when the dust has settled I love the grind.
Same!! On the days that I have a struggle run I still love the feeling of accomplishment. My goal for this upcoming half is to beat my time which is 2:45 so we shall see if I do.
I also love the alone time with me, music and my head.
Of course you will, and in the event of things not going your way you’ll still take a lot from it. Look for even splits slow and steady wins the race.
Pret we’ll plenty of water but don’t over do it or you will have no electrolytes left. Eat well the few days before but don’t over do it 12/18 hrs before the race. Have everything organised don’t let a missing sock ruin your day.
When the grind is on and embrace it. If it was easy everyone would be doing it. Google how many people in the world have completed a half marathon. You’ll be surprised
Strained my hip flexor and possibly adductor last week. Said I would take it easy this weekend, I didn’t follow my own advice. Did a half marathon myself around my town, but in my defence I need to train as I have an official half marathon next weekend and 2 more marathons in October.
I’m not going to run this week. I’ll probably do a few light miles Saturday as a systems check for the official half on Sunday.
I rarely get injured so this is going to be tricky.
I’ll talk more about it in due course but the second on the 2 marathons in October will be the biggest of my running life.
So now I need to stay off the booze and running this week
What’s up bro? I’m a runner as well. I’ve done 1 half marathon and ton of 5K’s & 10ks. Running h I s Grey for staying sober. I’m just starting over but it helps me a lot.
It definitely helps keeping me on the straight and narrow. In the past if lost a lot of training to wasted weekends. Keep on building on the training, nothing beats the buzz of a finish line.
Ooof!! That sucks. My hip flexors are a weak spot for me as well. You need the rest. If it was me I would take the week off and focus on stretching and healing. You don’t want to injury it worse and be out longer or worse miss out on your Marathons
