Well, another nice little surprise today. I ordered these about 2 weeks ago from a record shop I occasionally buy from in Brooklyn, and coincidentally delivered today (day 900).

These are 2020 digital remaster special editions of the five most impactful Kraftwerk records: Autobahn (1974), Radio Activity (1975), Trans-Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), and Computer World (1981).

Total impulse buy, as I had no idea that they had been released. I actually already have original pressings of Radio Activity and Computer World, but has been intending to get the others for some time and just couldn’t resist pulling the trigger on all. The packaging is just absolutely gorgeous, they each come with extensive artwork books, and from what I have heard the remasters sound tremendous. So now I have things to listen to tomorrow on my “good” system in the living room (both of my setups are good, but the one in the living room is a better turntable, and the speakers are properly separated and on isolation stands – creating a better listening experience).

If you’re unfamiliar, Kraftwerk were an electronic music group formed in Germany in 1970. At their peak in the 70s and early 80s, and arguably the first electronic group to achieve any measure of mainstream success. Their influence on music as a whole is immeasurable – if the music you like has any electronic components or synthesizers, it likely would be very different or possibly not exist at all if it weren’t for Kraftwerk.
To do what they were doing in the 70s is really crazy to think about. Keep in mind there was no digital back then. They often had to build and/or program their instruments themselves.
I based my entire senior project in college on their work, culminating in one long-ass paper and several electronic tracks, most notably “I breathe like a robot”.

Anyhow, I’ll be geeking out over this for a bit.

I like to pretend I’m a pro photographer. All photos taken off my phone :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I’m grateful I can see the beauty in things now as I never appreciated my surroundings in my addiction

Hey guys. I was just curious what types of hobbies you’ve discovered since getting sober.

I’ve found that I really enjoy rewatching tv series I watched while drinking. It’s amazing how much I missed and how much better tv is now that I’m fully aware through the whole thing. :joy:

I started tying my own steelhead jigs. Its something i tried before but never put as much time into it as i have this year.

I’ve been reading a lot more again, doing a lot more organizing of my space and filtering out what doesnt “spark joy”, making room for open space or new things. Been doing a few holiday crafts, also watching more movies and actually finishing them instead of drifting off into dreamland haha. Honestly filtering through things I have and shedding the old, donating to people who could use it for free, makes things feel light and even more ready to continue anew. I’m at 3 weeks, woo!

I got into gardening for the whole first year of my sobriety. I wasn’t great at it, but I really enjoyed working with the living earth, helping something to grow and thrive.

I’m actually thinking about getting back into an old hobby of mine, photography. I pawned my camera for drug money years ago, but I wasn’t half bad at it and more importantly, I enjoyed it.

Lol i can’t tell you how many times ive watched a “new” movie or series and had this feeling like i had seen it before. Now I know why.

I am trying to get back into working out, and I am now reading more. I definitely feel that these will help me to stay sober. And I’ve found that if I don’t drink while reading that I actually remember what I read, so that’s awesomeness!

These are all great ideas!
I’m starting to really enjoy the extra time and energy that I have and I can’t wait to see all the new things I’m going to enjoy sober.

I’ve learned to crochet. Wanted to for years but never took the time. I’ve also bought some woodworking tools. I want to learn to carve. Not sure how that’s going to go but I’m gonna try it

I’ve started learning claw-hammer banjo, it’s so much fun.

Also, just more ‘crafty’ in general, I made an advent calender, and Christmas wreaths for my neighbours and built a mini summer house for my cat.

Also got more into cold water swimming this year, I’ve liked it for a few years, but definitely more committed this winter.

That’s over a few months of attempted sobriety.

I’ve started to learn to program when I was still drinking. That didn’t work… Now getting back to it all fresh and clear headed. Hope to become a digital nomad one day and work from a tropical beach… A girl can dream right

Yeah now I only have to watch each episode once! lol

I’ve really gotten into exercise and health. I’ve found that besides actually working out, eating healthy and trying to live a healthy lifestyle take a lot of time and attention. So that really helps me stay occupied and keeps the boredom away.

Wohoo! I came on to write that I started crocheting after 20 years’ pause… And found a fellow crocheter on the thread! :muscle:t4: I’m amazed how much satisfaction I get from making things myself! Especially when there’s no pressure from getting a grade from a teacher, lol.

I had to Google what that was, after looking at it for 5 minutes
