Cheers bud.
It’s just recently some very mild thoughts have crept in about “it wouldn’t hurt me or anyone if I got drunk just once more”
But I soon remind myself of the misery and shite that comes with alcohol and getting pissed that I grab a Pineapple Juice lol.
Happy Days

morning, well it is my end anyway, yeah I get them thoughts quite often now, I would of called them cravings in the past but it’s nowhere near that intense now but too many relapses finally teaches us the lesson of life, We don’t so we won’t. Have a good day.

After 3 years since I had to call it quits due to injury, I’m back in my boots!
Those of you that know me know how much I’ve hated not being able to play. Its been crushing. Not just due to injury, but also no leagues in my area. Well today I met a guy who plays in a local league and he’s going to give me a call.
I went to the field after work to see how bad the rust is. I need to get my sprints back, as well as my feel for the ball – but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Put in 45 mins or so. Thankfully my distance running and lifting has me still in good form, just have to free up my hips and get my speed back. Back is a little sore but I figure I’m just not used to the hard stepping and quick cuts. The turf was trashed too, sure that didn’t help.

It just felt amazing to be back out there. Will train 3-4x a week post-gym. Agility work and footwork drills, sprints…although there is no substitution for actually playing. Have to actually play to get “it” back. Even if the guy doesn’t call me, I WILL play again. Count on it.

Awesome to see man, I use to race dirtbike and had to give it up to some injuries. And then of course the drinking took me on a different route. But I’m hoping once I get things settled and get my license back, I’ll be able to get back to the track. God I miss it

Thanks, guys! In honesty I am fucking sore today. Not hurt, but definitely not used to the movements yesterday. Ankles, hamstrings, and lower back in rough shape.
Went to the gym this morning like normal but after just one set I realized I needed to do the smart thing and not push it. So I stretched for a half hour and went home.
I have two bags of ice in the freezer, have a frigid ice bath waiting for me later!

635 days of getting better at getting better! Great that you are ready to resume a sport for which you have passion, no longer content to spectate, but to be a player!

A bit of advice from someone who climbed back into the ring, after a 30 year break: you can be better now than you were then, but it’s a different measure of better. Skills and knowledge will overcome physicality, in most cases. Don’t let visions and perceptions of past abilities dictate. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

Thanks Yoda. Yeah this morning is a reminder that I’m going to really have to ease back into this and be patient with myself. My plan I mentioned yesterday of training 3-4x a week will need to be a semi-distant goal. I need today off and probably tomorrow as well to make sure I don’t strain myself. I am actually really looking forward to my ice bath.

Great point about skills and knowledge vs physicality. Thankfully soccer is a game which relies a lot on mental tactics, soccer IQ, and positioning. Physical skill helps all those things produce results, but it’s very much a mental sport. Thats how the guys in their late 30s keep playing pro…physical isnt what it used to be, but they are smart players who understand how the game works.
